Trump's policies and body of work are more conducive to conservatism than sKamala's.

    This isn't rocket science.

    Rade,

It is really stunning to me how few people connect the dots of History when it comes to the reality of the entities always running the show:

    Neolithic Chief / Shaman(s)
    Warrior Chief / Shaman(s)
    God King / Shaman(s)
    King / Shaman(s)
    Pharoah / Shaman(s)
    Emperor / Shaman(s)
    Imperial Majesty / Shaman(s)
    Prime Minister / Shaman(s)
    Dictator / Shaman(s)
    President / Shaman(s) / Corporations
    Party Secretary / No Shaman(s)
    Party Chairman / No Shaman(s)
    General Secretary / Shaman(s)
    President - Dictator / Shaman(s) / Oligarhs

    Just sayin

    From Mona Charen's article:
The woman who wrote the book on useful idiots has become a useful idiot. How ironic.

LOL at the fake cons. Pubs defending conservatism is like Homer defending a donut.

I'm conserving brain cells by not directly engaging here nor watching cable news. But, I leave for Greece tomorrow: OPA!

I'm curious. Do you consider conservatism to be a score like say 5 points to the right if you favor free trade and 3 points to the left if you favor farm subsidies? Or is it more of a philosophical world view?

“Or” is used weirdly here. It’s a philosophy & it can to some extent be scored as you suggest.

I think we can all agree that when you increase the size & scope of gov, that should not be labeled conservatism, right?

Fair enough. I believe that most people view it exclusively as a score so I usually frame the question as or. So, since I assume you're not a mind reader, do you judge people to be authentic or fake conservatives based on their score?

Just as the modern Trumpist GOP is completely uninhabitable to those with 3-digit IQs and basic senses of morality.

Of course not. Socialists are not fake cons. Dems are not fake cons. You have to have an abysmal score like Reagan AND claim to be a con. That's fake conservatism.

The other form of fake conservatism is putting BIG GOV shit in a "box" labeled conservatism. New NAFTA, tariffs, the gov paying for IVF is not conservative just b/c pubs favor it.

She was giving the speech locally here in NC and addressed the comment to conservatives in swing states. But thanks for playing.

Kudos for trying to give a substantive answer, but looking at that list, and concluding Trump is the guy to defend those values, is at best perplexing.

This is the problem. Conservatism doesn’t have any real practical meaning. As the point out in the podcast US conservatism is different than worldwide conservatism. US conservatism has historically contained a healthy dose of liberalism - liberalism as historically defined as freedom, individual rights and free markets. Trump has veered more to an international and historical view of conservatism that tends to favor authoritarianism and the government controlling many aspects of people’s lives.

Problem is most people on the right these days define conservatism as supporting Trump. That’s it.

Are the any US politicians, present or past (post WWII), that meets your definition of conservative?
