    The team got punched in the mouth on the first game of the season. I reserve my judgement until I see how the team and coaches respond to being punched in the mouth. One game does not signal the end for a team. It is how the team responds that shines the light on their "culture". When a team falls down it is how they get up that matters. Go Gators! I am here in all kinds of weather.

    Yes but I'd think an OC would recognize those issues

    I agree, but a) teaching and developing the details is a year round issue and not a mid season fix and b) what if any coordinator would have to operate under a structure that impedes this, by accident or design?

    Though Muschamp insisted he never called any offensive plays or told his OCs what to do, they all had eerily similar results over two different schools. As though there was a top down commonality dictating subtly or overtly what would be prioritized and the narrow boundaries within everything would be done.

    Napier proclaimed on day one this would be a detail oriented team (and physical, which also hasn't happened) and neither side of the ball has shown those details yet, though the defense has had two different coordinators and now a veteran DC to mentor the current DC. It seems like this disconnect is from the top down and a new OC may result in the same amount of difference new DCs have.

    We have two guys with Co-OC titles that should be perfectly capable of "recogniz[ing] issues."

    The ones that were holding out for him like me were thinking that six or seven wins would be a huge improvement and show that the program is moving forward. Obviously that’s not going to happen and we could only have two ends if we look like that the rest of the year. Maybe not even

    This is the thing that is most bothersome to me. I kinda see the methodical, detail oriented, high effort mindset when it comes to evaluating prospects. I don't see it anywhere on the field.

    His offense may not be the greatest, but I don’t think it’s the worst either. His playcalling is just so out of touch. The one time I can say that it looked pretty good was against Tennessee for the first half. Tennessee made adjustments and we did not and the second half we looked just like we look in any other game. He just doesn’t know how to adjust to other teams as a game goes on. He’s completely predictable and easy to play against.

    Not sure any solid experienced head coach or his agent would sign that, but it is an idea.

    At the risk of getting slabs of bacon thrown at me, I am wondering if the Foley technique with the Zooker might be the plan. As I saw it, and as discussed ad nauseum on Gator Country and TOSs:

    * Former Utah President Bernie Machen knew Utah HC Urban Meyer well, and knew of his abilities;
    * Foley and Machen both communicated their intent out west without violating tampering rules;
    * Foley waited for the proper trigger to fire Zook. The MSU loss at Cowbell Hell provided the trigger;
    * If Foley selected Charlie Strong as interim HC, and Strong finished strong, the pressure to retain him would be enormous, therefore...
    * Foley asked Zook if he would remain the HC until the end of the season.
    * Zook wanted to coach the bowl game, but I suspect the deal was done with Meyer, at least in principle, so Foley rejected it, and Zook upset the Noles on the day the Erector Set was named after Bowden, this immortalizing it forever as Ron Zook Field (to the Nole fan's fury), and was carried off the field by his players.
    * Meyer went through the formality of a job search, but selected Florida because "At Florida, I can win NOW!"

    Not sure if this would work under the present circumstances, because (a) Florida had three winning seasons, (b) Florida had a powerful young team just coming into their own, and (c) Florida had a President and a longtime AD. It was a perfect set of circumstances for Meyer. The new prospective coach would have few of these advantages.

    Perhaps we can:

    * Fire Napier but compel him to stay on until the end of the season. This signals to everyone that Florida WILL make a change for 2025. The rest of this would be tricky, as tampering rules could get us sanctioned, unless there are highly credentialed head coaches that currently are not coaching...

    You left out winning at least 6 games under the conditions you just suggested.

    I think a loss to either Samford OR tamu will open the trap door.

    Honestly do not know how much of that can or should be attributed to Stricklin. Outside of the money maker sports UF's innate advantages loom huge. The vast majority of those competitors are here for the educational opportunity scholarships afford them, and UF's academic reputation, academic opportunities (name me an undergraduate degree that you CANT get at UF), climate, and environment are a combination not found in many places.

    But even if he had a hand in those things the bottom line is that you dont get to screw up the goose that lays the golden eggs and still keep your job.

    All the other stuff is "nice" but you earn your keep based upon what is necessary.

    I am sure there are forces within the admin who wish it were otherwise, and would like nothing better than Florida to join the ranks of Public Ivies and the fanbase to take a more genteel approach to sports. And I've even advocated for cutting loose the current NCAA football superstructure and letting it be the NFL farm league it truly is. But until that happens the football and basketball programs are going to be chained around the AD's neck.

    Smooty, "depending on how the season shakes out" well, I agree, and just perhaps Nape can rally the troops, if he can win 6 perhaps he survives. But give me the 6 wins? Who?? With this schedule? For me, a loss to any of Samford, tamu or Miss State seals his fate. Could be wrong, he is owed alot of doh ray me.

    But when the swamp is half full, the collective funds dry up, and every message board, E-Mail and Podcaster is livid, ............... hmmmm

    Really just win
    I almost feel like this is SS mindset to a degree. We have turned into a "Stanford" type olympic school. We have essentially the best overall sports program, and probably the most coveted AD job in that industry. But SS and the UAA cant be blind enough to the fact that Football is king, and the other schools are selling their souls to try and field the best team possible. We are not. And you cant hope to beat the best when you are doing less than everyone else.

    I'm liking Ally Peek for the interim job. At least she has passion. Eric can help with special teams, and well, she ain't hard to look at.

    This is the mindset we need to have for a moment. We need to wait and see what happens. Obviously we cannot bury out heads in the sand and ignore all of the red flags. But I do not want to just throw away the season after 1 game.

    Calm down big fella.

    We get it ... You know what's best and have decades of experience building football programs.

    I am confident that if the university followed your advice we'd be in the exact same spot in 3-4 years.

    We have no President. Our AD has lost a lot of support. We have no GM. Our boosters are funding buyouts more than NIL. Revenue sharing is almost here.

    But to hell with it - @uftaipan thinks we should fire the AD and HC. Lets do it.

    I apologize for not posting more. Have been lurking on this forum for a few years now. But I will continue to voice my opinion during the season. I have watched as much gator football as anyone else the last 20 years and the number of posts made does not make any comments or information given more/less valid than anything else in this forum.

    But I appreciate your feedback. Thanks!
