Mike Greenberg talked at length today about the presser fiasco and the inevitability of Billy's firing. I was surprised by how supportive he was of the UF fanbase and how hard he slammed BN for his remarks and the crappy product on the field. His co-host outright said there was no coming back now and that he probably won't finish the season.
Napier doesn't know what he doesn't know and there is nobody within the program with the knowledge, clout, or authority who can disabuse him of his chosen course. Cold hard reality will.
Pressure will increase with each loss, a loss to Sanford might prematurely do it, but losses to TAM, MSU, UCF and beatdown by UT could do it. My own guess is twofold, a hammering by UGA or whichever team brings us our 7th loss (meaning 3rd losing season under BN). I think with each loss the press conferences will become a bit more terse, more defensiveness and more telling that the end is near. I also believe you will see more empty seats in the stands with each loss. Whether SS wants or doesn't want to fire BN, it will be difficult for him to stay the course.
Buyout between $24 & $30 million depending on when it happens. AD needs to go as well, IMO, but it's going to take a ballsy move from several big money donors to pull the trigger on that kind of buyout.
He may be, but it's only because it's going to be around $50 to $60 million dollars to pay him off along with whatever the buyouts are for the rest of his staff and to hire a new coach that anyone gives a damn about along with a new staff.
Is that including all the buyouts for the rest of the staff? I would not be surprised if they’re close to 50 all said and done. Taking out the ad with that group is just a drop in the bucket, and I expect it to happen. Don’t have as much disdain for him as some others, but I think he’s lost the confidence of the fanbase as much as Billy has, and I don’t see much of anything saving either of them. Outside of winning and continuing to win of course, but that seems like a tall task at this point.
The house will undoubtedly be cleaned. It always is. I always find a few things worth saving when I clean though. Wait, did I just admit I’m a hoarder?
I know football is king among college sports, but while CBN is most likely toast, Strickland has a bit of argument of his success since his work consists of all sports and not just football. Just this year alone UF sports was one of the best and I know that's not a popular thing around here but as the AD the still an accomplishment that he can boast. Just the '23-'24 season. No. 1 Men’s Outdoor Track & Field No. 2 Women’s Indoor Track & Field No. 2 Women’s Outdoor Track & Field No. 3 Men’s Swimming & Diving No. 3 Women’s Swimming & Diving No. 3 Men’s Indoor Track & Field No. T3 Baseball No. T-3 Lacrosse No. T-3 Softball No. 4 Gymnastics No. 5 Women’s Cross Country Gators Score Top 4 Sports Ranking
He is done and I prefer it to be sooner rather than later. What needed to be done ought to be done ASAP.
I don't doubt your premise re. "a handshake deal." That's why we need to cut off the hand doing the shaking. Right now Stricklin has the call. It ain't etched in stone that he gets to keep it.
I liked what they were saying also but still think we are fricked for the near future. What an incredible mess we're in with a program crippling loss with an interim president and a lame duck AD. I am all for making the bold moves they were advocating but I'm not sure I like doing radical crap until the uncertainty shakes out of college football and it takes its final form. But I don't see how Napier can remain - we should and I think we will fire him this season. They were saying losing to A&M should result in immediate termination. I agree but I don't understand what we would do in the interim - who would take over, Rob Sale?
I get wha t you are saying but I do not think we will se the final form of college football for quite sometime and the uncertainty will remain for at least another 10 years. Time to cut bait and be bold.
If he continues to lose, as expected, he is going to lose a majority of the team to the portal. He will be starting over with none of his players.
