No it hasn’t. Its still football Recruiting has changed, but why would Urban Meyer struggle in a world where $ helps get players? Meyer is a dude that wins with our guys and would win with their guys. If Urban Meyer had the 2024 offseason with our team we beat Miami.
There are reasons we may not want Meyer, they really all come down to pride. But thinking Meyer will fail is absolutely asinine. He is about as much of a slam dunk of a hire that you could ever make at this stage.
The only people who care about that kind of stuff played soccer and only soccer. Every winning coach I've played for is an alpha dickhead that does Urban type stuff.
No way to know Tressel was that much of a short timer but he surely knew Saban was playing by different rules. Same with Billy Donovan.
I think you are underestimating what great coaches can do. They learn the game and win it. The NFL is a different beast and I don’t think you can judge Urban off of that experience. Hell, Saban didn’t make it in the NFL.
I wonder if his methods will translate well in this easy portal environment. However, I’d assume he could adapt. I do like the idea someone brought up of him being a GM type. But I don’t see it happening. I’m going to a guess and say if UF swings and misses on a few of the bigger gets (Lane, Urbs, Lanning) then it will come down to Fisch, Leipold and if that doesn’t happen then you’ve got Chadwell or Golesh. I’m not getting my hopes up, I’ve seen how this plays out so many times now.
Saban and Spurrier both left the NFL on their own accord and went immediately back to coaching, not back to the retirement farm. They weren’t brought back out of retirement for the second or third time. Doesn’t really matter. Neither of us can definitively say what would or wouldn’t happen. I don’t have any control over any of it and if Urbs gets hired, he’ll be my guy. I’m just not a huge fan of shopping in the retirement community. I’d much prefer someone who has coached through all these recent changes, and already has a functional plan in place to deal with them, and is on an upward trajectory.
I think Urban has proven to be a coach who can and will adjust to be successful, whether on the field or in the office. Learned lesson from UF exit and left OSU in about as good a place as he could. Everyone keeps saying Jacksonville, why can't he have learned another lesson based on that experience?
History revisionist. In the Urban Meyer Netflix show, he admitted that he didn't know if he would make it at UF until he got Tebow, Percy, and Spikes.
