Can you imagine how Urban would react to such an obvious screwup in the recruiting game? If Napier can't get such a simple detail correct with all of the assistants he has on staff, how can he coach a successful football team? What a clown.

    Over his head.

I wonder which of the dozens of analysts made this call.

Usually the recruits are in the South EZ, why the change.

Whatever happens to Napier, Stricklin, Sasse, Mori, Patel, Haas, Jantz, etc… one has to approach this like a home remodel. You shouldn’t start with the finishing and painting when the entire basement is full of water (cackle cackle).

One has to investigate and follow the money. Who is grifting the taxpayers? Maybe the rot goes deeper than the one shovel investigator can find.

After spending the last few days coming to terms with being a washed-up has-been football program, I've rationalized my way into an epiphany of hope:

If the Ewe is capable of turning around mulitiple decades of mediocrity, suck, embarassment, and obscurity - and if they can do it in this new era, then UF is most certainly capable as well.

Thanks for the modernization BN, now let's line up an actual coaching staff and tons of cash and do this.

Miami only comes to play when its against the Gators. The few Canes fans I know hate the Gators more than FSU or anyone else, even though we play them like once a decade. They will contrive their way to 3-4 losses this year, and lose to FSU.

Always the death knell to insult the fans. A simple "we know the fans are passionate, which we love, but we are going to keep the players focused on improving and not dwelling on social media posts" would have been appropriate. But I dont make $7M per year so Napier must be better at it than me with 'our fans are basement losers' to paraphrase.

I am not ready to say Meeahmi is a team of world beaters yet. They stomped us but that says more about how terrible we are versus how great they are. What will be funny is if they drop a few games inexplicably in the ACC after all the talking heads think they are a top 5 team.

When coaches start fighting with fans, real or imagined, it’s often a sign things may be unrecoverable.

Why do schools like UF agree to these insane buyout numbers, without having some parameters around them? If the expectation is a coach after year X has a winning record, or go to a bowl, or a playoff, or whatever if those expectations aren’t met, the school shouldn’t put itself on the hook for 8 figure buyouts.

Seems to me a school would be better off increasing the annual salary and decreasing the buyout. That way you are correlated success and payouts.

Well, that or he's got a $26 million buyout.

We seem to be a proving ground for incompetent coaches.

The common denominator seems to be that we offer huge contracts with enormous buyouts to unproven coaches. Even if they fail completely, which our last four coaches have, they still make out like bandits. I understand that every incoming coach would rather have a huge contract and enormous buyout, but why couldn't we offer a reasonable salary with enormous incentives and a reasonable buyout? A coach would have to have a certain level of confidence to sign with UF, but that's o.k. Start with a base salary of $4 million, a buyout that starts at $16 million (and drops by $4 million/yr until it hits $4 million), and have $12 million in incentives.

If a coach is so checked-out that he can't pay attention to whether his prize recruits are sitting next to the opponent's bench or not in the first game of the third season, then we are paying him way too much to fail. Our coach has more than enough to retire on after doing nothing notable to earn it besides assure everyone that "it's a process".

Unfortunately the precedent for large buyout numbers has been set. Not just by the school but by others as well. I could be wrong and oftentimes I am wrong, but I don't expect someone to come here and accept a small buyout

That's why I am saying that what we need to do is provide massive incentive bonuses to make up for that. Poor performance, you're still a multi-millionaire, but you aren't walking away with tens of millions of dollars. We may need to walk away from the first few coaches we offer if they aren't confident enough to think they will win and win big at UF. It's also a huge insult if the school says we threw millions of dollars at him, but he was not confident enough in himself as a winner to take the job. I'm fairly certain that some halfway decent coach in college football will take the job, and have a chip on his shoulder to prove himself and triple or quadruple his salary.

Throwing tens of millions of dollars at buyouts every three years, in addition to massive unearned salaries being paid every year, is only making the program more bankrupt, with less money for facilities and assistants. It would also be helpful if we had an athletic director with enough knowledge of how to run a successful football program to pull a coach aside once in a while and chew him out for his mistakes, if that's what it takes.

Or make the buyout prorated based on W-L record.

I mean was BN such a hot hire that we had to give him 18 years and 100 million? (sarcasm).
