I just found out today that Norvell at FSU is making over 9 million a year. And they're stuck with him for years. Ha ha ha ha ha ha.
He wasn't referring to social media, as if it were some entity. He wasn't referring to a single specific person. He wasn't defending the team when he said "we." He wasn't referring to any geographical area. He didn't misspeak. He was angry and he lashed out. (For another example, rewatch his Monday PC following last year's Kentucky game.) He was so out of control that he was tightening the lid of his water bottle while trying to open it. (Hilariously unintentional metaphor, IMO) Why? Because he doesn't have any other answer now that basically the entire country sees the truth about him as a football coach.
That’s just “process” talk but nothing constructive or concrete. I am freaking sick and tired of his nonsense.
What he said was tone deaf at best, or a passive aggressive dig at the fan base. After you got your ass handed to you at home on national television, that is not the time to bitch about negativity social media. My counterpoint to you saying this wasn’t a dig against the fanbase, why say a basement in central Florida? Why not just say basement? The fact he added central Florida to the statement moves it from a general rant against social media to one that can be considered to be directed against Gators fans. That addition wasn’t an accident, and was a shot by him to the fanbase.
Maybe he was talking about a particular guy he knows in a basement in central Florida. Anyway, no one on social media can do a thing about this fiasco. What to do about Napier will have to be decided by the same guy who hired him. The same guy who said just last week that he thought Napier would be here for a long time. The best move Stricklin might can make is to latch onto this "insulting the Gator fanbase" idea as cause for dismissal, just like a certain shark molester who talked about death threats.
His overarching point was perfectly valid, and the frustration understandable, but my god this is a man that takes pride in never even poking a little fun at the opposition, much less criticize them. It not only could have been phrased better, it could not have been delivered in a much worse way. ( I know somewhat hyperbolic ) Time and circumstance matter. If being respectful… even bland is your style, stick with it… and certainly don’t ever give the impression you’re insulting your own fan base, intentionally or not… especially when the seat you are on is as scalding as his is.
Everyone has baggage. All’s good when your talent outweighs your baggage, look at urban. If we had been competitive the last 2 years, he would have “earned” the right to make comments like that without repercussions but at this point his baggage outweighs his talent
Sorry, jumped to last page and someone probably already noted this, but this quote from BN is just too much: “We got to go to work on the football part.”
He shouldn’t have anything to say in his defense or poke at anyone. He should be apologetic and only talking about his own failures. He may be the worst ever. Different from Mullen who knows his shit but is lazy and disingenuous. This guy is trying his best but just doesn’t know what he’s doing against the best coaches in the world. He’s just not on that level.
