If he’s half the coach he was while he was with us, that’s still a massive improvement over what we’ve seen. You have a point about the portal, but it’s not like there’s no solution to it. It’s more cowbell, more recruiting. You recruit such high quality and quantity you can get away with ultimatums like that. And I think Urban Meyer is that dude. Do I think he ever comes back to be the head coach at a high profile program though? I’m skeptical.
Or... It means that the Gators were the only programs out of those 3 that could not sustain a high level of greatness in football after Meyer left.
Urban isn’t coming here. Because of our AD’s decisions over the past decade or so this job is where you go to end your career. It isn’t a job any good coach wants. No upside

Yes, but he didn't leave the program in a mess. His transgression was that he kept a jerk on the staff he should have canned. That's it. I can live with that.

The idea that ANYONE is going to walk in to this mess and just give you two natty’s in less than a decade is completely bonkers to me. It’s certainly not impossible, but we have three in our entire history. Assuming that anyone is just going to show up and immediately give you two more seems like you’re just setting yourself up for disappointment. Also, the guy you’re talking about has been out of college coaching for a long time. The last time he was coaxed out of retirement was as big of a shit show as he left us with 15 years ago. He has no experience with the portal, NIL, or this generation of players. I just don’t get the fascination.
