It could happen. It just takes financial commitment to have a shot. If they buy the top classes, there’s no reason they can’t. Buying the best qb without a line isn’t going to get it done no matter who calls plays.

He can graduate from Mars if he can do his job and gets full financial support. Let me know when a superior playcaller wins a title with classes in the teens.

I've supported Napier throughout and refuse to pummel him with critique, but yesterday was bad. I was not expecting Miami to completely dominate us. We had no answers and then it looked like we just gave up.

If you don't have the best players how do win a football game?
A: Your system has to be the difference maker.

I no longer believe Napier's "system" will be that differentiator that will help us win games. I think he does a great job of preparing the players for life after football, but that doesn't win football games.

    On the bright side:
    Shemar and Pup looked solid
Cam James and TJ Searcy were active all game
Pyburn was solid vs the run
Dez Watson holds his own vs the double team

    On the dark side:
    Our pass rush is non-existent
    Our play calling lacks creativity
    Moore is injured again

If we can't put pressure on the QB, the best DBs aren't going to make a difference.

In regards to putting pressure on the QB, I watch other teams whose players on the defensive line are able to shed blockers. Our defensive linemen seem to have some sort of Velcro on their jerseys. They make initial contact and they stick to whomever is in front of them. I don't know if it's technique or strength or both, but I'm tired of seeing our guys always getting stoned.

Our lines were dominated, bc they're coached like shit, while theirs were coached well (Cristobal was a lineman (OL)).

    Napes is a coach's son.

Btw, do you think Notre Dame is more talented than us? They took a young line into College Station and imposed their will on the SEC Agies.

    That's coaching.

There is a buyout no matter what year he gets fired. It is either 30 million or 27 million or 24 million, 20 million, etc. - just goes down a bit each year.

This. Napier's contract says he gets 85% of his remaining salary when he gets fired. The contract is for 7 years ~$52 million. So after this season there's still 4 years left on it. Each year pays BN $7.3 million average, so the buyout decreases about 6.2+ million each year.

Hopefully the next AD can negotiate a better contract next time that says not winning at least 8 games in your first 3 seasons lessens the buyout.

The contract is insane when you think about it. 7 years and 52 million based on a 9-3 season and a loss in the Sun-Belt championship.

We deserve the mess we’re in.

What are you talking about? Billy was coming off of a 12-1 (only loss was at Texas) and a Sunbelt Championship. You don’t get the name Sunbelt Billy for losing the Sunbelt.

The opportunity for that was immediately after the Rashada lawsuit was filed. Not sure you’re going to get a better opportunity to avoid/negotiate the buyout (for cause), and that ship has sailed.

not a Napier fan but would be a better post using accurate facts- he was coming off two straight sun belt titles and was 13-1 his final year, including a victory in the sun belt title game, not a loss and not 9-3. The only loss was to Texas.

he stinks as a coach at UF but those were the actual numbers of his season prior to UF.

I mean Napier was a collegiate QB, not that it is paying any dividends.

No WE don't. The decision makers who make these braindead decisions do. But of course, as with most things in this world, those people get a golden parachute while we get to deal with a tire fire.

Agreed, but the poster you quoted was insinuating we set up something like a hooker trap to lure Napier into doing something criminal and thus be able to terminate him for cause, save the buyout, etc.

Say what you will about Napier but he doesn’t strike me as the type to fall for such a thing…
