I was at the game and believe it was much worse in person. I bet on tv you couldn’t hear or see the Miami fans smugness.

I never was into the hire, but as usual I will give a guy a fair shake. Esp with knowing he inherited nonexistent D from Mullen, and even the O was not in great shape.

In year 3 it’s mind boggling how little progress has been made. Vanilla offense seemingly with less explosiveness each year. Weak lines on both sides. Sill horrid team defense. At this point I see no argument to stay the course. Definition of insanity.

I bought into the theory of BN being a program guy and trying to build things up correctly. A year ago before the season started with a highly rated recruiting class it seemed like it may be going the right direction. But when it became apparent the team was mediocre at best much of that class fell apart. At that point you had to question the narrative of building it from ground up.

Plus I always looked at the New DC who seemed like he was 13 years old - and questioned was he really the best guy out there? As the season progressed the D was still awful so building the program with superior coaching personnel was called into question. Then after the season was over he hires an experienced guy to help the DC - I’m not even sure who the DC is now. He had to let his DB coach go.

It seemed like some positive things happened in the transfer portal but best I can tell that at best will be incremental change.

As an OC I can’t say Napier is particularly any better than average. Why do we want a HC calling plays if you can hire any generic OC to accomplish the same things?

At this point I’m not sure what Napier’s value add is? He is a good natural recruiter but that doesn’t do much good if you can’t win on the field as the recruits will flee. BN is clearly not particularly great at hiring coaching staff. As to all the other administrative staff - it doesn’t seem to be leading to any tangible results.

Hopefully he starts DJ from here on out. It’s the only way there is any upside. Mertz seems like a good kid but he can’t throw the ball down the field and he can’t run and defenses have figured this out - they just jam up everything.

Perhaps DJ lights a spark and some of the new players start to gel. Maybe. But admittedly at this point that is mostly wishful thinking.

It’s pretty discouraging knowing that this whole thing is likely blown up and we start from scratch, yet again. Sure if you could get Kiffin that would be great, but otherwise we are rolling the dice with someone who seems like they have potential but you just don’t know. Seems to me the Jimbo Fisher hire and possibly the Lincoln Riley hire show that backing the truck up and buying the biggest name out there isn’t a fool proof strategy either.

Tennessee has something like 11 fewer wins than us since Urban left us (22 counting their vacated) and went through Dooley, Jones, and Pruitt before liking where they are at with Heupel in year 4 as a dark horse playoff pick.

Ugh that they are our model of success from moving from mediocrity to spoiler. I think I might cry.

Also to keep this in Too Hot:

If I could chose either a Harris win or a Gator spectacular season I would be happy watching the country fall apart under Trump while I enjoyed the Gators being competitive. Democracy is second fiddle to college football.

After our vanilla drive and Miami's stupid roughing the passer drive, I knew it was over. Predicted 21 point loss to the family. I watched the rest of the game resigned. It stinks to know the outcome of a book in the first two paragraphs. Particularly one you have waited 8 months to buy.

    He must go.

    Apathy over here

It’s bigger than even Stickin. It’s clear the UAA won’t hire proven coaches, and the last 4 coaches are a result of that.

The up and coming model can work (Spurrier, Urban), but at least in football, you can’t keep starting from scratch every time.

UAA is either too set in their ways, or threatened by big name coaches.

It’s over. We have 2 for sure wins on the schedule. MAYBE a third if we can beat one of UK or MSUjr. We ain’t beating any of the other teams we play.

It should be restated UM looked very good. Loaded. For UF, the OL was surprisingly not improved. UM pressure was constant with hurried passes, sacks and QB knockdowns. also RBs missing blocks. And UF total rushing yards of 140 but 70 on one play when UM DBs misplayed their run coverage. Point is, why is the OL not better?

There will be major resistance to firing Napier. He has a $26M buyout plus pushback firing him in a season with easily the toughest cfb schedule. . That’s a bad look especially with a UF trend of a new coach every 3-4 years. However, these fire-the-coach things get a life of their own and becomes an mob-ish growing negative presence. But 3 losing seasons? Oof.

Go for the deep pass, start DJ. See if that can change the direction. samford this week to get him going.

Come on guys, let’s not bring the anger, negativity, bickering, and know-it-all attitudes of the sports forum to Too Hot. This has historically been our sanctuary where we rise above that.
