I appreciate what Mertz did for us last year, but he doesn't come close to the dynamic ability of Lagway. There's being accurate and taking care of the ball (Mertz) and then there's actually being a playmaker (Lagway).

Could NOT do anything but help IMHO...

Mertz regression was just so damn frustrating!!
That and Scum receiver's being 5 yards open all day.

Depends on if Mertz can reliably connect downfield. He didn't look good today but if he can get dialed in then I still think he can be a successful QB.

I don’t see how Napier survives riding Mertz

He’s almost certainly toast with DJ too. But there is a chance we catch fire.

I like Mertz but Lagway should be the starter here on out. I like Napier but he needs to be replaced.

plus, say we don’t catch fire but win enough to go 6-6 or even 7-5 with Lagway and the offense racking up points and going up and down the field but losing in shoot outs to the good teams on the schedule. Might not save Napiers job in the end but….if that scenario plays out it is more likely to save his job than finishing 6-6 or similar with Mertz in a pedestrian offense that puts fans to sleep and has us getting blown out by every good team and struggling in close games vs teams with less talent. Lagway can provide hope that Mertz cannot.

Even Lagway will be limited with Billy’s playcalling.

    Give Callaway full playcalling duties.

    Give Lagway the ball.

I can tolerate losing if we are going all out yet coming up short.

I cannot tolerate Billy’s stupid playcalling just because he feels compelled to stay process-oriented.

I think BN rides with Mertz "It's his team" he says but Lag will play when game gets out of hand as in boat raced. Lag may start when it's clear our season is in the dumper.

Lagway will be saddled with Napier's offensive play calling. Yes, I wrote it that way on purpose.
    Run up the middle.
    Incomplete pass.
3rd and long run a slow developing play action play and throw it to a receiver standing still 3 yards down the field.
Joe Montana himself couldn't do much in this offense. Of course, I realize he's 70 years old but it wouldn't matter. There is a reason why Anthony Richardson left after one year of being the starter.

Season kind of already in dumper so more Lagway incoming.

In addition, sadly I expect more games getting boat raced so more Lagway either way.

Reminds me of the Jeff Driskel situation. He wasn’t ready to bring up the play level on a bad team. I don’t think Lagway will be either.

There is some talent on this team that is really worth retaining, if we can. The same cannot be said for this failed staff or the AD who brought them in after today's little reality check. Lagway and a few others may be hard to hold on to when Billy finally gets the hook, but we will have no choice but to take our chances, one way or the other. This era of UF FB is on its last legs and a change is now all but inevitable. This is sad day in many respects. Billy is an honorable man and a fine role model. He just isn't a P5 HC. It is time to dump SS and start the search for his replacement. Once a new AD is in place, it will be Billy's turn.

Good/great players would not let that happen to them, not in this transfer portal era. Lagway will not play cleanup man on isle 13... He's not here for that kind of disrespect, and shame on anyone thinking he would be asked to do that. This isn't the '80's college football.

Mertz has great heart but he has poor vision/decision making/risk-taking skills. We're not going to go anywhere with him at QB. We need to make the change and grow with Lagway.

DJ doesn't block, rush the passer, or cover anyone. Might make a few more plays and score a few points, but I don't think we get off the field enough on Defense to change the trajectory of this team.
