Essentially every play for him last year was at or near the LOS with backers running at him full speed. Not much difference.
He started against FSU and did a very good job against Verse, who was probably the best end we faced all year. It took Verse running past Leonard to get sacks.
He didn't play much last year due to injury, so if he's starting above a touted OL transfer maybe that's a good indicator?
Agree but he can be very disruptive when he's on the field and often tie up an additional blocker. I suspect he's no longer as heavy as he was listed at the end of July. He looked a little thinner in the photos I've seen and moved well in videos.
Waites was actually the number 2 offensive tackle coming out of the portal in 2022. Crenshaw-Dixon was 32 this year.
Twenty snaps would be great. Average number of plays dropped last year with the clock changes…and based on the two early games this year, the trend looks to continue. Twenty snaps would be about a third of what Miami is going to run. That puts us at something like: Jackson - 30 snaps Watson - 20 snaps Boireau/Slackman/Banks - 10 snaps
I don't know if you can lay all the blame on Leonard. The OL was horrific against FSU and got thoroughly abused by their DL.
Those two OT transfers are backups…..hmmmm. Was hoping one of them would takeover starting job outright.
Question: can someone explain to me the difference between the positions on the depth chart called “F”, “end” and “Jack”? And on which side of the NT are they lining up? Thanks - I’ve always had a hard time keeping this straight…. Thanks!
This is a good question. There's not consistency in these positions across teams so if a journalist wanted to do something useful it'd be cool to get some analysis of this either from the staff or based on previous film.
Kind of surprised/disappointed that Kelby Collins is 3rd on the depth chart at DE. I thought this would be a big year for him.
Leonard and Mazzcua were really bad that game, when we needed them to help the backup OT. However, the same pressure would not have been there if it was Mertz. Our third stringer wasn't ready for that pressure.
On obvious passing downs, I’d expect Banks or Slackman to take more of those snaps and have more than 10 combined snaps at NT. Collins will get a lot of passing down snaps at DT.
Right now he is the size of an F or jack, so them starting ahead of him makes sense on standard downs. He needs to be rushing the qb on 3rd and long though.
