Without starting a new thread, I have some related questions. I got myself a ticket and I'll be coming from Jacksonville. Any recommendations on where I should park? And, what time should I leave Jacksonville so I don't get locked out of parking?

Do they not realize this just makes people drink liquor instead of beer (way easier to hide) and vastly increases the chances of people acting like idiots???

Am I gonna have to pour my beer in a styrofoam cup or something and use a straw like a weirdo?

There is a parking garage on archer and whatever road that is is a straight shot to the stadium. It’s free to park there and it’s about a 20 minute walk.Gale Lemerand take a right and it’s on your left. When archer and 16 split, it’s the next right

IMHO, beer is far worse--that is, it is far more implicated in fights and violence, than spirits.

I dunno. It takes much longer to get there with beer and I usually fall asleep nowadays before I get there.

Well, I was basing my claim on memory, anecdotally, based on where I've seen fights break out and what's being drunk. Stadiums, sports bars, cowboy bars, keggers... places where beer is being consumed mostly, seem to be the worst in terms of fights, while places where spirits are mostly being consumed are far less likely to yield fights. From my experience. And certainly we can all agree, wine is least like to drive violence.

The study I linked was the closest and only to support either way that I could find.

Yep, guys drinking fine whiskey in a whiskey bar usually don’t fight. ( they are old) wine? They don’t even have testicles. Beer? It’s cheap and if you add youngsters, rednecks, and bikers, we have a recipe.

Most old guys are to old for fighting and also realize many including old guys conceal carry these days so it is best to avoid trouble. Of course most of us old guys don't hang in bars at night on FB weekends in Gainesville anymore either.

Some years have been worse than others with the open container enforcement. I remember when parking was allowed just off Mowry next to the band practice field. We had a spot there we could get back onto Archer Road pretty easily post game. The last year, I think, parking was allowed there we arrived at the season opener in time to have a couple of beers then took a “Walker” with us walking to the stadium. I guess a new ordinance was in place for that season and a pair of policeman stopped us as soon as we hit the sidewalk and demanded we pour the beers out. We complied, except for our companions’ girlfriend who immediately turned her 16oz Coors Lite up and chugged the entire contents. One of the policemen was yelling at her the entire time. No ticket given but, the incident forced us to change our pre game drinking ritual. My wife and I told our buddy, (retired in 2017 with 30 years in Citrus County Sherriff’s Department , BTW), he should hang onto that gal. She’s a keeper. And he did.

Then you will get busted for having a plastic straw. Gainesville has a city ordinance against plastic straws.

Not sure about worse, but definitely increases the need for bathroom visits.
