Great Gator team! Many of us were there and we know they were one of Floridas best teams ever and should get credit.

In your opinion, could 85 team have beaten 84?

bastids in the sec waited until AFTER we won that title on the field to vacate it. They were so sure we would find a way drop a game along the way and not win the title.

This is long overdue as is our NC recognition on the stadium wall for the 1984 team. If Bama can claim the Bubba Thudpucker Crematorium and BBQ Pit National Championships or the EatMo Peanuts national titles, we can count the NY Times and the others that recognized us as the Champions.

Not if they played like they did against Georgia. I think they and us fans had the big head going into the Georgia game being ranked #1 and having beat Georgia the year before. I am not sure I have seen another college team that I would have picked to beat the 84 team at the end of the season.

The '85 Gators were more explosive through the air with Bell's accelerating maturity and a bunch of great wideouts. However, the '84 Gators had The Great Wall of Florida. The '85 Gators only had 1 OL (Jeff Zimmerman) left from the Great Wall. It would have been a close one, but I'd give the slight edge to the '84 Gators. The one tie ( LSU Vs. RUTGERS) and one loss (defending MNC Miami vs. Georgia) by each team favors the '84 SEC Champs, too.

We were one of the last teams to get a TV ban from the NCAA. It was probably the worst punishment ever handed down short of SMU's death penalty.

The '84 team came of age after a tough start and went on to physically impose their will on the opposition like no UF team before or after, IMHO. I will never forget the back-to-back humiliations we heaped on UGA and Auburn. That was surely among the best teams in UF history. The '85 team was almost as daunting.

Alabama has half a dozen claimed titles that were less earned than our 84’ team. I say F#^* the SEC office and claim it! Put the 84’ on the stadium and let others concern themselves with the legitimacy. Our boys earned it and NCAA and SEC have let far greater violations go unchecked…(cough)…BAMA…(cough)…UGA…(cough).

I love the SEC recognition; an event that was celebrated as such. There was no celebration for winning the national championship that year. In my opinion, it would be a UCF move to add the title due to a computer ranking. I may be in the minority, but strongly against trying to recognize that team as the national champs.

    Go GATORS!

BYU beat a 6-5 meatchicken team in the Holiday Bowl that year to claim a mnc. The 84 Gators would have curb stomped that byu team.

The '85 team was great, but they didn't have the '84 great wall and that would have eventually ground down the '85 D.

Spurrier wanted to honor the 1990 team along with the other official SEC championship teams.
But IMO admin couldn't put up 1990 and leave off 84 and 85, so all 3 were on the wall at one point.
Then they took them all off after SOS left.

1984 needs to be up there- somehow someway.
I think 85 and 90 too, but I don't feel as strongly about them.

Should put them back up. For example, all those teams that had to vacate wins, doesn't mean anything because everyone says "well, we all know what happened in those games, we saw who won".
