Ya, these guys who say they don't like Trump really spend a lot of time and energy subtly defending him.

Maybe they truly don't like him.....they just totally like the organization that lies for him, defends his criminality, and gaslights the public into thinking that his crime, treason and fifth are acceptable.

    Strange times we live in.

Agree with your first phrase and I stick to the thought that building a wall is DUMB. OTOH - as usual, we've got partisan hacks reading one story that's based upon another story w/o doing the actual reading. The Right Wing piece cherry-picked quotes from an Axios piece, leaving out these details:
    • she still has significant differences with Trump on immigration, opposing his approach to family separation and his plans for mass deportations.
    • Lankford's [a pub] office estimated the legislation would spend $650 million on a wall, down from the $18 billion Trump requested in 2018.
    • Harris advisers note that the bipartisan border proposal didn't include any new money to continue building the wall.
      • It just extended the timeline to spend funds that had been appropriated during Trump's last year as president, they say, although the legislation has new restrictions to ensure the money is spent on barriers.
Predictably, this was a WEAK a$$ gotcha. So don't get too excited.

How do you think she is being malleable? I'm not outright disputing the notion, but would like to know what you base it on.

Of course this is a problem for Harris, because she now has to explain why she and Biden stopped all wall construction on day 1 of his administration via executive order and now she is for it. She has to acknowledge her own policy exacerbated the migrant crisis and why she fought so hard against something she now apparently supports. She is not going to be able to explain her way out of it and it was a dumb move anyway, because she is not going to sway any independents or moderates by adopting a MAGA policy.

Pay particular attention to the cost comparisons and the “no bid contract” aspect.

Records Show Trump’s Border Wall Is Costing Taxpayers Billions More Than Initial Contracts — ProPublica

The sections of wall the Trump admin built was garbage. That doesn’t even get into the Steve Bannon stuff where they literally just stole money for a supposed “privately built” border wall. Crimes which Trump pardoned.

We Build The Wall founder sentenced to 4 years in prison

Your comparisons to the Challenger Shuttle and the assassination attempt are crazytown as those were apolitical bureaucratic screwups, likely by career government workers with little or no political input in the details. The wall contracts noted above were 100% a political product. They were the central tenet of the campaign FFS, then they awarded no bid contracts to a Trump donor to build it. Of course nobody expects Trump to be involved in the “engineering”. Does anyone expect Trump to have professional work product??? What’s next, not his fault unless he was out there actually physically building it?

The wall was not only a Trump campaigning point, he used executive powers to spend defense money on it when Congress shut his stupid ass down.

In January 2018, Mr Trump asked Congress to pay $18bn (£13.6bn) over the next decade for an initial phase of construction, but the bill ultimately failed.

Some money was allocated by Congress in 2018 for projects at the border.

However, in 2019 Mr Trump used national emergency powers to divert funds from the Department of Defense after Congress rejected more money for the wall.
Trump's wall: How much has been built during his term?

Tilting centrist vs tilting left previously. I’m not saying that’s necessarily bad.

I don’t know her but she doesn’t strike me is ideological at all.

I'm wondering what your indicator is that she is being malleable. Do you take the OP at face value?

Look at her positions before 2020, then during 2020, and now. This was my impression long before this thread.

At the risk of being redundant, I don’t necessarily view this as a negative.

"Tilting centrist" in her campaign rhetoric.

Not an iota of anything, to suggest that's not just hollow words, targeted at the likes of you and @tilly who are desperately looking for justification to despise Trump, AND not vote for him.

    Despise Trump all yall want.

But don't fool yourselves for a second, that sKamala (like Doh! Biden before) is not significantly further Left than Trump.

Her record shows she's Leftist to her core, and at best, a malleable puppet determined to please "the machine" that coronated her. She's the Left's Virgin Mary: "I am the handmaiden of [my overlords (the machine)]; let it be done onto me according to [their] will."
