Freshman Taylor Parks. She has 46 assists, 3 service aces and 8 digs deep into the 4th set. Pretty good.
Still can't believe when I look at the roster and see 6 defensive specialists...I felt the first set today flowed well with 6 rotation outsides then quickly went back to the inconsistent passing once all the subs started coming in like last year. If we are going to do this same system again I hope we use the 2 freshman more. I really like what I saw from Vogel and Lee. As always, it takes good passing to get middle hitters involved but I don't think it's emphasized even on a perfect pass. Gonna be a long season if only 2 players get like 70% of the swings. If Stuckey is able to play it should be a very competitive team, sure would hate to lose another year with not having a stucky to kennedy connection.
StatMonitr Stat Feed.. This match was an exhibition and was played as such. Both teams were nervous and out of sync as would be predicted. In the first set, we were more on than off. We were quick to the ball and we seemed to flow. We could not get out of our own way in the rest of our sets. The theme was poor passing, poor setting, and hitting into blockers. We cannot have the disparity in kills from Kennedy to the next be so great. I will say when she decides she is going to kill it, it happens. There were some positives from the match: Freshmen Alec Roth, Bella Lee, Ella Vogel, Jaela Auguste, and Taylor Parks had some bright spots. As the season goes on, I believe they will receive a lot of floor time. (If Stuckey comes back, then Parks will be on the bench.) Transfer Isabel Martin is someone who will contribute as well as Erin Engel. Lauren Harden did not have a good match, but I look for better as the season goes along. It was the first time the Gators played someone besides the Gators so that was a relief. I will give props to GSU. They are a talented team. Their libero could play anywhere. Keep the faith. We were successful. I look forward to next weekend in CO.
Glad to hear a report from someone who was there and saw the match in person. Is Kira Hutson going to be ready to play next weekend in Colorado?
I think it is going to be a while. On a better note, Madi's sister Ella was there and at after party as well as their parents and Gravelee grandparents. They are all super. Ella is an outstanding outside who is a sophomore in high school. She hit a lot of camps this summer.
Four who did not play in the exhibition, three could be starters: Alexis Stucky Kira Hutson Gabby Essix Madi Gravlee The match was played as an exhibition and especially so for the new players on the roster who received a lot of playing time.
Kira not ready after a year is not good. Shoulder and back injuries can be difficult and turn into chronic conditions. I hope that is not the case for Kira. I'd rather think CMW was holding experienced players out of an exhibition rather than due to injury. It'll be interesting to see who plays in the season opener later this week.
I cannot wait for this volleyball season to start. I am hoping with finger crossed that the Colorado matches will be streamed.
Nothing for Friday night? On floridagators.com, they show the Saturday match on ESPN+. If on ESPN3, it can be watched on the Watch ESPN app using your TV provider credentials.
I think the Colorado State game on Friday is on the Mountain West Network, But I can't find the game anywhere via the WatchESPN app. Mountain West Conference If anybody knows how to access the Mountain West Network, please let us know. Thanks
Just watched Kentucky vs Nebraska game which Nebraska lost the first game then reeled off the next 3 games to win 3-1. Wisconsin vs Louisville just starting now on ESPN2.
Thanks @scrappygator! - I put the app on my Roku, opened it up and it shows the UF/Colorado State game right where it should be. Can't wait!
Thanks @scrappygator! I also found the app in my Apple TV App Store and have downloaded it to watch the game. This could be a good measurement as to where we stand in our preparation. Colorado State has been picked to win the Mountain West Conference. I don’t doubt our prep, but CSU volleyball team is seen as a very good mid major team. We cannot take them lightly.
