Retired veteran here, did not feel what Walz did was a slap in the face to me.
I retired in 2004. If my unit would have been sent into combat in 2006, I don't think my old squadron would have felt I let them down. They would have probably felt like I already served over 20 years and had done my duty.

Would the Navy have made you the CO or SEA of a ship getting ready for a deployment in next 12 months if they thought you were going to retire in six months?

We all know the answer to this. But when one is so partisan I doubt you will get an honest answer.

I suspect partisanship is far more important than veteran status in getting someone really offended by Walz' record.

I will readily agree Walz' DUI episode where he faked a hearing impairment and blamed the cop for him driving drunk 41 mph over the speed limit is far more revealing about his character than his conveniently timed retirement from the military. His stolen valor is right up there with the DUI episode though.

I would disagree. This is mainly a reservist issue since they are the only ones that really understand it. I've talked to some of my active duty counterparts about this issue and they did not really understand it since it deals with reserve issues they do not have to deal with. The easiest way to explain the issue was to ask them if they think someone about to retire would would be given a highly covered billet with a two year commitment as an 0-5 commander or BN SEA. Once it is explained like that, they generally tend to understand the issue.

Again, this is not really going to make a difference come election day. It is mainly a topic that is being discussed within the veteran community. I do not think Harris' VP selection is really going to impact that many votes since there are other issues that have a much more importance to veteran voters.

This has kind of turned into a esoteric topic among current and former military about the hierarchy of service. Does a veteran that got out as an E-5 with a couple combat tours on her one enlistment have the standing to tell an Infantry 0-3 with no combat tours to pipe down? Opinions vary, as I am sure you can imagine.

I can't argue with you on that, because I just don't know. It's not like I'm active in a large veteran network and accept your view as broader and more informed than mine.

    It never ends with Walz

“A letter from the Nebraska Chamber to Tim Walz resurfaced on social media and the former Nebraska Chamber president and chairman's emails, which pushed Walz's 2006 campaign for Congress to make a correction about an award from his home state decades ago.”

Kennedy recalled the kick-start of the 2006 correction when Tim Walz claimed during a 2006 campaign for Congress that he was named the Outstanding Young Nebraskan by the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce for his service in the education, military, and small business communities.

The U.S. Chamber then reached out to Kennedy, he recalled. So he and his team checked their records.

Well, he had never received any award from the Nebraska Chamber," Kennedy said.“

And of course the partisan gulpers told you this is wrong, citing far-fetched nonsensical theories.

Probably not, because I was a newly selected 0-4. I saw in another post that you are a reservist? If that is correct, then you probably know more about reservist side than me. My knowledge of the reserve side was the couple weeks a year they hung around the squadron and I never dealt with them when I was on subs.
