Welp....3-4 is an improvement over 2-5 and if we start 5-0 any more than 2 wins in the final 5 will be gravy.

I think you missed the point. The scrimmage doesn't erase last season. Until they actually do something on the field, I'd like hear less from Napier about how "pleased" he is. They need to prove it on the field.

Definitely true for Spurrier. He wasn't satisfied even when he was up 50. Good quality in a coach, probably.

Back in the first half of the 2023 Gator Football season, I saw threads here on the board that where Napier was praising the team and also at times critical of the progress of the Gators.

In one of those threads (I believe in September), Napier said it was at times difficult to have productive and efficient team meeting. One of those problems is that the some to many on team were not up to par on knowing what was expected of them and on functions of the team meetings. A lot of time was spent on going over the same ground over and over.

Another thing you have to consider is that coaches in general do not want their players reading a ton of negative articles in the press and on the sports internet forums.

No. You missed the point. He was talking about the scrimmage.

    Not last season.

Apparently that last statement didn't apply to SOS teams. Or Urban's teams FTM. Great coaches have high standards and great players try to meet those standards.

I think he is far more pleased with this year's team, and experienced depth, than he was about last year's team. But what do you expect our head ball coach to say before a season? That he's NOT pleased?

There are mountains more evidence other than Napier's own (pleased) words, that makes me certain that this year's team is (and will show it in games) far better than last year's team, and yes, we have to play the games to prove it. So... I will enjoy seeing this season unfold with a healthy, rational optimism.

Correction. That was 610 snaps in the scrimmage. Just a little transposed number problem.

I understand what your are saying.

Talking about improvements in preason is one thing.

What the score board says at the end of a game says many things.
The after game stats and the game video put on the exclamation points on what happened in the game.
All three items are the measuring points.

I really do not care too much what the talking heads on sports TV shows say.
For one thing they are getting paid by the word and what type marketing/rating stats they generate.

All we have now (and since the first day of summer practice) are:
    1. How the players have done on the conditioning and nutrition. The results so far look good.
    2. How effecent the team meetings, the practices, and the scrimmages are going. The results here look good to. This item shows how both the coaches and the players know the system and are working the system.
    3. The above two items are better than what we saw and read about in Napier's first two seasons.
Again I agree with you that what we have read and seen in summer practice cannot be recorded as a win or a loss. The games have to be played.

The final results of the 2024 season will show us how much better or worse this team is.

Well, they’re not available. This is the team and these are the coaches. Are you going to tell us how much better kids behaved and how much better parenting was, back in the old days now?
