Hear from reliable sources that the following new players looked good Lagway Turk Chiles Graham Both new safeties No injuries
I have two thoughts about this latest scrimmage, from what I have gathered about it so far. One is good news and the other is bad news... First the good news... our defense is playing like a seasoned UGA defense, and it showed in the scrimmage. The bad news is our defense played like a seasoned UGA defense, and our offense had NO answer for it. Okay... you guys know we will not be UGA on defense, but we should be a much more sound team than we were last year.
At this point I’d rather have a better defense. That’s what really stunk last year. Cost us a couple games. Our offense wasn’t bad. If our D is handling our offense that’s a big step forward. Don’t forget our defense knows our offense from practicing against it. My 2 cents
Yep, just pointing it out, and I am not complaining about a great defense. The offense will be okay, you'll see.
The D sees the same O every day, so there is an advantage there, but not turning well executed offensive short gains into the big play is huge for this D. Harris was quite effusive on his praise for improvements in position groups for positioning, awareness and communication that are base things that just weren't happening consistently last year. He also mentioned the size and athleticism of specific players he was impressed with, like Gumbs, Searcy, Jackson, and McCray. He also mentioned they played as a unit, so the number on the depth chart didn't seem to matter. That really matches up with what we are hearing about not just having depth of bodies, but competitive depth. That's exciting.
