Cags gets paid!

Bad 3rd strike call.

The Sky Carp tv guy, when he wasn't fighting with a bee in the broadcast booth, mentioned Cags has been getting a lot of close strikes called on him.

 

The replay I saw was again too close to take IMHO with two strikes, especially in today’s version of umpires. However, Cags just walked away from the plate to his dugout and ol’blue pulled out his pen and started writing in his little book.

The manager had to come out to find out what was going on. From Cag’s body language and demeanor that was a weak arse ejection on the umpire’s part, at least to me.

 

Keep in mind these umps are not exactly stellar. Think Jeff Head minus 175% of his abilities.

Homer off the starting pitcher with two on base. Plus an additional hit so far.

 

I never liked the idea of automated umps--but I have changed my mind in the last couple of years--let them call balls and strikes--it can't be any worse than humans!!

 

It might not be so bad if they would just do two things—
1) Prohibit the taking of EGO pills, and
2) Take those freaking jumbo screen TVs out of the stadiums so that the players and umpires will quit watching themselves.

 

On TV they have a strike rectangle that as far as I can see does not change with the height of the batter. And there is no indication of where it is from the front of the plate (where I think it is) to the back of the plate. It isn't useless but it can be deceptive. It is as good as when we played StrikeOut on the Southside of Chicago with a strike zone painted on a brick wall facing a parking lot. Cool game, BTW. I loved playing it. A good curve could cheat the system but I wanted to kill them with fastballs and no cheating.

I have seen other pitch graphics on TV that pretty much cover the prism of the strike zone and that is awesome. This one might be a technology for balls and strikes if we ever go to automated balls and strikes.

 

I do agree that the current rectangle K-zone can be deceptive and loses
accuracy for different heights of players vs whatever they used for their standard….

My Dad built me a similar strike zone to throw through in an attempt for me to learn the depth and width of the strike zone. He used kite string and balsa wood so it wasn’t too bad to replace broken strings or pieces.

He used my sister’s height (5’9”) for our knees and letters high/low strike zone.

 

The River Bandits are now 25-23. Since Cags joined them they have gone 8-4. In those 12 games they have played the division leader for 6 and next to last for 6. The Midwest goes 6 game series. Next week they get the next to last from the other division for 6.

Essentially the Bandits were not a great team prior to Jac joining--they have gotten better with him even with his slower start.

 

Cags is now up to .250, and his team has won 7 straight to win the 2nd half and make the playoffs.

 

First-round pick Jac Caglianone has started to heat up, going 10-for-30 with six doubles and a triple this week.

Doubles and triples, eh? Amazing what happens when they don’t put 5-6 guys on the right side of the field.

 

Caglianone hit eight doubles all season.

Thank the shift. It’s honestly amazing how many singles he still got.

 

They appear to have taken on the 2024 Gator mentality--win when you have to! 3 game set starts Tuesday at home and then 2 at Wisconsin.

The way they have been playing they might pull off the series.

I'm a bit surprised he didn't do better. However I'm sure he's exhausted. Hope his arm is ok as well. Will be interesting to watch next season to see if his game starts to translate into pro ball.
