the bigger question is if they take more, will they make them? and each 3pt attempt is one less 2pt attempt, and with our size it may be better to attack the hoop more. I have a feeling though with the firepower at the 1, 2 and with Richard at the 3, that we are going to see a barrage of 3-pt attempts from our backcourt and wings and at times we're going to be frustrated with our shoot happy (dare I say chuckers) guards. I really hope we have a more balanced offense (and make those 3s at a high clip) and I think that will somewhat depend on Haugh and Condo's development on the offensive side of the ball. Hopefully Condo is a beast inside.
Hopefully the latter (Condo/Haugh being a force inside) opens up the former (uncontested 3's hitting at a higher rate.)
true, but most times the defense gets the rebound...even with the best off reb teams, like we were last year
exactly, that is why an inside presence and a balanced offense is so key...3pt shooters open up the inside and vice versa, but that depends whether our shooters can hit the 3, otherwise the defense will just sag and pack the paint, daring us to shoot...like in some years past
It was always funny to see how much room defenses gave Samuel when he'd line up for a 3. Same for Castleton.
Yeah, if you were shooting 4 for 25 like Samuel, I'd give you a beautifully embossed invitation to fire away from 3.
We didn’t shoot as many threes as we wanted last year (34.6 3pt rate, which is exceptionally low), but our 3pt% (34.5) correlated almost exactly with our effective fg% (51.8--same as our 2pt%). Basically, it made not different quantitatively whether we took 2s or 3s. But that’s with both Kugel and Richard struggling, and none of our bigs being a threat. I'm hopeful we are better this year. If we can shoot just 36% from the arc, that correlates to 54% effective fg% and is much better than your average 2pt%. In that event, the more threes, the better,

[/QUOTE] This is the perfect scenario for a nice inside out game. Flip it in to the bigs, who will stress other teams' defenses, then when the other teams' wings and guards sag in to defend the bigs, flip it out for an easy, open three. That scenario should help our three point percentage. And after a while, it will also help our bigs because that will put opposing defenses in a damned if you do, damned if you don't circumstance.
