RG3 had been demoted from his analyst role on “Monday NFL Countdown” this season after the network hired retired Eagles center Jason Kelce. And now cut altogether. Sam Ponder's been there since 2011? Anyone else know her daughter is named Bowden Sainte-Claire after Bobby? ESPN fires Robert Griffin III, Sam Ponder in stunning NFL shakeup (nypost.com)
I thought RGIII was fun to listen to in the booth. That's where he should be and for college (not NFL) games.
Curious as to the real story, they still have to pay the putz so I don’t see how this saves money like they’ve claimed
ESPN would also use RG3 for their NCAA track coverage. He actually competed for Baylor his first year there- he enrolled in January and did track that semester. I think he was 4th nationally in the low hurdles- something like that. Amazing athlete. He definitely livened up the coverage.
Agreed, while he has a certain charisma it quickly wears thin, and what he actually says does little to enlighten or advance the commentary. He could be entertaining at times, but more as a distraction than an addition.
I can see that. Personally I like his kind of humorous approach but I can where others would be. But as far as addition goes, to me, none of them really add anything except Gary Danielson and occasionally Kirk Herbstreit.
Look for Kirk Herbstriet to get the axe soon. He recently publicly stated that men do not belong in Women's sports. That is a big no no to do at ESPN.
Always liked RGIII. Don't remember seeing Ponder (or at least it didn't leave an impression). Only thing I know about him was he's a semi and has a hot GF/wife.
I really can’t listen to or watch Stephen A. It’s quickly obvious with him that he knows nothing about sports that he, ahem, comments on. He is to commentary what Beth Mowins is to announcing.
