    Define “too much”

Aldi owns like 10% market share, and inside their stores I’d guess very little product on their shelves is actually from Germany. The U.S. wasn’t even one of Germany’s top 10 food exports destinations in 2020. Overall, this is a non issue.

    Netherlands $11.1 B
    France $6.7 B
    Italy $5.6 B
    Austria $5.4 B
    Poland $5.1 B
    United Kingdom $5.1 B
    Belgium $3.6 B
    Spain $3.0 B
    Denmark $2.9 B
    China, mainland $2.6 B

Do you think everything in a Publix is sourced from the U.S.? You might want to look more closely…it’s very mixed.

    That would also make sense.

Yup, that is exactly the idea. It was a little weird at first, but never bothered me. I also rarely use a cart, just take in a cloth bag and use that as shopping cart and as grocery bag when done.

Aldi here still requires the quarter. You get it back when you return it by clicking into the cart ahead of it in the cart corral.

I wonder if Biden administration will squash this due to anti trust concerns.

Don't think so. Winn-Dixie has 13% of the market in Florida compared with Publix which has around 60% (the numbers vary according to the part of the state). If hypothetically Publix were to buy Winn-Dixie the administration would almost certainly try to block the acquisition. Not including the acquisition of Winn-Dixie Aldi has a market share of maybe one percent. I got the numbers from multiple articles and while they're probably not 100 percent accurate they're close enough for purposes of comparisons.
