a) go in and slaughter 10s of thousands of civilians while displacing and starving up to 2 million, or...

b) Do nothing.


So you do nobody any favors by establishing the discourse as such, or by putting words in my mouth.

Nobody is "defending Hamas" wrt anything. "Defending" implies protecting, or supporting.

Some people are saying that the butchery of this amount of civilians is inhumane, and most likely counterproductive. Some of those people have posted then been silent for some time, to observe.

So, having had more time to observe, what has been happening? Does it seem like Israel and Netanyahu have a good plan they're executing?

Has this killing and displacement of Palestinian civilians, and total destruction of Gaza, been.....productive?

Sadly Netanyahu wants to extend the war as long as possible to delay the inevitable as soon as the war is over he's dead meat politically. He's already been indicted and facing trial and the Israeli electorate with the exception of the far right blames him for the events of October 7, 2023. Although he will obviously never say it he considers the hostages expendable.

 

This paints a much different picture than what you are saying. Facts matter.

I've been led to believe that Hamas poses an "existential threat" to Israel.

Specifically: if Israel had fewer smart munitions to launch at buildings and complexes housing civilians, but where there also might be terrorists.....then Hamas would have the capacity to eliminate Israel as a nation-state.

The reason that Israel hasn't eliminated the tunnels already is that in addition to using them to hide it's own fighters, munitions and leadership Hamas is very likely holding Israeli hostages in those tunnels. Israel considered flooding the tunnels months ago and decided against doing so most likely for that reason.
