In light of the ending of the 2024 Olympics, I think it's a good time to seriously consider this for future competitions.

I don't know about you, but I found the 2024 Olympics to be the most boring and unpatriotic Olympics in my lifetime. The Olympics just don't mean what they used to. Some of that is maybe because of the random sports they have, but I am old enough to remember what it felt like for the 1992, 1996 and 2000 Olympics. There was genuine pride for the athletes representing the U.S. There was genuine excitement when athletes representing the U.S. won Gold. Many of the U.S. athletes, at least temporarily, became essentially celebrities, if for a few weeks or months.

I am not old enough to remember the 1984 or 1988 Olympics but I know it was even more intense and patriotic then, due to the rivalry with the then Soviet Union.

But all of that is over. A conservative in Texas or Florida is not going to feel represented by a liberal athlete from California or New York. And the same of course in reverse.

My opinion is that the divisive politics in the country and the two sides moving away from each have caused any type of patriotism in International Competitions like the Olympics to become almost non-existent. People here in the U.S. simply can not feel represented by someone who they think or know has different views than them. Look at Rapinoe with women's soccer in prior international competitions. She alone caused many here in the U.S. to actively root against the U.S. in soccer.

The only solution I see, along with everything else in the U.S., is a split between Conservatives and Liberals. Petition the Olympics and International Competitions to have a United Conservatives of America and a United Liberals of America. For the Conservative team you would have to show proof of being registered with the Republican Party, Libertarian Party or some other Conservative Party. For the Liberal team you would likewise have to show proof of being registered with the Democrat Party, Green Party, Socialist Party or some other Liberal Party.

If International Competitions and the Olympics won't allow this, then at least a competition between the Conservative Team and the Liberal Team, with the winner being the one who gets to represent the U.S. But I think with enough money thrown around and enough push, the U.S. could get this done.

This would allow people to truly feel represented by their athletes again. To truly feel represented by their teams again. To probably bring some patriotism back for future Olympics and International Competitions. Otherwise I for-see a continued decrease in interest in the Olympics and International Competitions here in the U.S.

Or maybe, people need to unbunch their panties, put down their political nonsense, and enjoy American athletes doing their best on an international stage.

Those days are over and the liberals have themselves to blame. Liberals are the ones who have brought politics into every aspect of life in the U.S.

Sports used to be about getting away from politics. About getting away from the BS of every day life, even if just for a few hours. But then you have athletes like Kaepernick, like Rapinoe, who have to shove their politics in your face. People used to say "shut up and dribble" not because those athletes didn't have a right to have political opinions, but that it should stay out of sports. People wanted sports for a break from the politics, but those days are over.

Be honest, can you really enjoy a U.S. athlete winning an international competition when you know that athlete has politics that are diametrically opposed to what you truly believe in? Can you truly support a U.S. athlete when you know they will be your enemy when you go to the ballot box every other November? I think the two sides are too far apart now for either side to truly say "yes" to that question.

I like to sequester my sports from politics... Why sensationalize politics even more?

I watch sports to get way from politics...

I think it's cool that you were first openly transgender Too Hot poster, back when you identified as your own mom. Which team would you play for?

Check the Olympics threads. "Liberals" as defined by this board and conservatives largely had a great time cheering on our country's athletes. Maybe try being patriotic instead of butthurt that your political "team" isn't winning more?

Hell, Shade45 posted all Olympic updates in the Den for 2 weeks because he enjoyed them, and I'm pretty sure from his occasional TooHot drive-bys that he's no liberal.

99% of the athletes showed absolutely no political affiliation.

Only political thing I saw was Simone posting that she loved her black job.

Other than that it was just amazing athletes doing what they love and trained their whole life for.

All that's missing is a comment about other countries' athletes stealing all the pretty American Olympians, and the identity will be fully verified.

I think you inadvertently stumbled onto a more cost effective solution right here. Since Trump supporters have more allegiance to Russia than America, they could just root for Russia. (More than they probably already do.)

Then all the real Americans, such as the ones in those groups you identified (Democrats, Republicans, etc.) can continue to cheer for America.

And we won't even try to employ Trumppublican cancel culture like against beers or the NFL, and we won't get angry and sad when our athletes exercise their right to love who they choose.

Also, tell your mom I said hi.

Speaking of butthurt, imagine the whooping the liberal athletes would put on the conservative ones.

The only American athlete that I think I didn't enjoy watching was Noah Lyles, and that had nothing to do with politics and everything to do with his arrogance and showboating.

Especially in women's sports. We all know that liberal men would happily transition to women just to beat conservative women at sports. That's totally within the most likely reasons someone transitions.

    Correct.

"Liberals are the ones who have brought politics into every aspect of life in the U.S.", says the poster looking to create two US Olympic committees based in politics.

The inability to see the whole picture is amazing.

What a joke. Last I respond to you before I put another of your stupid accounts on ignore.

My wife and I actually talked about how it was pretty amazing that so many of the finest athletes were also very beautiful people.
