I wouldn't say she's avoiding. It's already been stated that it will happen after the convention

Part of this problem is me, who isn’t nearly the political junkie that being on this board would suggest, so I personally don’t know much about Kamala. You are correct that she has existed for a while and likely we can gather something about her presidency from the record of her existence. However, president is a different job, and candidates often sound different we applying for it. Do we really know all we need to know?

Clearly we didn’t know who she’d pick as her VP. Before Kamala recently shut down the “lock him up!” chant at her rally, did you know she’d do that? Do we know how frequently she will issue executive orders and on what types of issues? What would she do if a bill came to her desk that she personally disagreed with but was popular with Americans? Would she ever give a speech like Biden’s anti-right wing extremism speech? What does she think is the biggest danger we face as a nation? What does she think is our best plan to handle immigration? What does she think is the president’s role in handling the economy?

Maybe you believe you can answer all these questions, but maybe some of your answers would be wrong. I can’t find anything on her website about any of these issues currently. This WaPo article suggests that she hasn’t maintained consistency in her positions over time, which is fine, but I think we should know where president Harris would differ from her previous stances.

I don’t mean to join the gang against you, phat, but I think this is one of the most fundamental of political questions. I’m glad that you see this distinction better now, and I agree with you on the NRA. (Though of course they or anyone could still engage in irresponsible rhetoric.)

When he ran for governor of North Carolina as a libertarian, Mike Munger was asked about legalizing drugs. He replied, don’t worry, under a Munger administration, drugs will not be mandatory. Obviously, the statement is meant to be comical, but it’s also informative.

Basically, the question is who gets to decide. You are correct that we should expect higher consumption of any good when that good is legal, but does this fact justify some persons denying a seemingly harmful good to others? Can we trust people to define what is harmful for themselves? If not, who can we trust?

See my post #48. Of course you remove an ectopic pregnancy to save the life of the woman.

However, my OB/GYN nephew tells me that removing an ectopic pregnancy is not an abortion because it does not occur in uterus.

Apparently someone dumbed down Sun Tzu for her and it’s working.

Trump is handing the worst VP in history the presidency on a silver platter. As usual, his lack of discipline and childish, idiotic ways are his undoing

It’s all about the “undecideds” and they’ll vote for the candidate they find least repulsive. Tough call because both of these folks are plenty repulsive and not at all worthy

While your nephew may be technically correct that doesn't apply to politicians with no medical training and they're the ones the write the laws and make decisions with respect to prosecution. Previously posted.
Ohio bill orders doctors to ‘reimplant ectopic pregnancy’ or face 'abortion murder' charges
Fortunately, the absurd bill was never enacted but that doesn't mean that an overly aggressive prosecutor would never prosecute a doctor in one of the states with an extreme abortion ban and doctors in Texas as an example have a well founded fear of potential prosecution if they perform a medically necessary abortion and their patient isn't literally at death's door.

I don't disagree. I expect she'll roll out policy proposals over the next few weeks and do interviews. She hasn't been at the top of the ticket for long and has prioritized picking her VP and campaigning, unsurprisingly. But I know enough to know she's getting my vote.

By the November election Harris will have held more press conferences with pools of journalists and more one-on-more interviews than Trump and the righties that have been complaining about her recent failure to hold interviews and have also been predicting that she will fall flat on her face will have the equivalent of buyer's remorse just like they do now with respect to the Biden withdrawal and his replacement with Harris.

The polls were slipping away when Biden withdrew from the race, and money was drying up quickly. The down ballot was headed for a potential disaster. Especially after Trump was shot, which is true but a weird thing to even type.

First order of business was to create some excitement, get the money flowing again and let people think she has a chance going into the DNC. She’s done that.

And when the DNC is over she needs to get into specifics and policy. But let’s not act like the other guy is long on that. His entire platform is basically a 20 bullet point sound bite/power point presentation with little to no detail that says things like defend our constitution, prevent ww3 and have large tax cuts.

As @GatorRade said, we’re not all political junkies. Yes, Harris has been politician for a long time. However, I didn’t follow her career in California since I don’t live there.

I know she ran for president four years ago but, if I remember correctly, she didn’t last very long. She’s been vice president for four years, but she really hasn’t done anything.

You make the assumption that everybody knows the same things that you know. That is rarely the case. Also, you say she’s a run-of-the-mill Democrat and so we should automatically know what she’s going to stand for. But that is also assumption, so the people need to hear her concrete ideas that she’s going to try to enact.

She will be laying out her economic plan today or tomorrow. While it will still probably be somewhat vague her plan will probably be more specific than Trump's which is essentially a two point plan, lower taxes and "drill, baby, drill!".

This refrain has been repeated, but the truth is more likely that people have no clue what the VP has done. It's empty rhetoric.

With respect, are you even open to voting for her? You have strong feelings on abortion, so I don't get the feeling you're going to support a pro-choice Democratic nominee. If I'm wrong in my assumptions, let me know.

She's a "run-of-the-mill" Democrat who rated more liberal than Bernie Sanders while she was in the Senate. Bernie Sanders is regularly regarded as a socialist and is self-described that way also. Whoever is telling you "run-of-the-mill" Democrat is lying. Especially, if they purport to know anything about politics. Begs the question: why do Kamala supporters have to lie about who she is?

Trumps list of promises pre election and actions during his presidency began and ended with a wall that Mexico didn't pay for and that blew over. Post 2nd election, we also had a failed insurrection. He couldn't even do that right.
Yeah, we need more of that.

Trump border wall in Mexicali falls over in wind, lands in Mexico
