Thomas was a mediocre male swimmer. 1000 yds is not swam in Div 1. So he had a top 10 time in an event that nobody good swims. I don’t think he cracked the top 50 in any real event.

Then he puts on a girl’s swimsuit and beats actual world class swimmers and Olympic medalists. It was a farce.

I’m categorically opposed to biological men competing with women. Unfortunately, right wing simpletons don’t seem to grasp the nuance in situations like this boxer. Now, it might still be unfair, but there needs to be a more nuanced discussion around intersex people. It’s not black or white.

 

If you're on a full ride in a male sport not named Football or Basketball (maybe even Baseball now), you are elite. I get your point, but I still stand by mine. The times, again, would have told you what was going to happen. Also, I don't want to get in the weeds on this, but the fact she didn't go through a full transition makes this smell even worse.

What's weird is that I can't find anything on Thomas pre-college career. You would assume there would be records from state championships, national or regional events, etc. I'm guessing, if you're on a full ride at Penn, that he probably won at least on state title, but who knows.

 

If you are on full ride in men’s swimming at a school like UF then yes you are elite. I have no idea if he was on a full scholarship at Penn, but Ivy League is just not competitive.

I looked it up. His times in real D1 events were ‘top 100’. That’s not elite. If you are winning large state tiles as a youth, you are probably not swimming at Penn, unless it was an academic decision.

The IOC's rule about gender may need to be reassessed but according to the rules in place at the time, no rules were broken. And no, I am not cheering for a man beating up a woman - that's just you being disingenuous (that means lying).

 

Why am I not surprised? No Republican especially in the South ever lost votes appealing to voters with TDS (transgender derangement syndrome). Although personally I don't think Thomas should have been permitted to compete against women there are literally dozens of issues that are more important than whether or not male to female transgender persons should be allowed to compete in athletics and that decision to be left to the governing bodies overseeing the competition rather than politicians.
