More dismissive bullshit from [the guy] who champions Hamas as warm, fuzzy humanitarian super heroes, though you hide your latent antisemitism and America hatred behind a translucent veneer of Palestinian oppression. But it wasn't Palestine that invaded Israel, right? Or was it? ...and who gives a damn if Israel was invaded? Or if a few thousand Jews we killed? Or raped? Or stolen? They had it coming to them, didn't they, Dub? ...just as the Jews on American campii across the fruited plain (save ours, at UF) deserved to feel the fear of Hamas .... er.... Palestinian... *protestors*... THE thing is *Palestinian oppression*. Right?
Excellent point. We shoulda poached Harvard's president. Then we woulda come out smelling like roses--if a cool billion lighter in the coffers. But hey, that'd be less than 1/2 of our entire endowment, so it wouldn't break us, right?
Sounds like a great guy. We should consider ourselves fortunate he spent $10M of UF's money on his friends to do nothing while living out of state.
But you don’t mind govt waste or you wouldn’t vote democrat. Seems you just pick and choose what kind of govt spending bothers you based on the letter next to the name. Your faux outrage noted.
It was disastrous. He never earned the faith of the faculty. He said he wanted to "remake UF," an institution that needed no such thing. Now he grifted the university for millions of dollars, playing funsies with $. Finally, coming in he promised not to play partisan politics, but he did that very thing gifting high $ appointments (the highest paying at the univ) to his Repub friends. Sasse’s spending spree: Former UF president channeled millions to GOP allies, secretive contracts - The Independent Florida Alligator Sasse promised during his ascension to the UF presidency in Fall 2022 that he would divorce himself from partisan politics under what he called a vow of “political celibacy.” But the senator-turned-university president quietly broke that promise in his 17-month term at the university’s helm, hiring six ex-Senate staffers and two former Republican officials to high-paying, remote jobs at the university. Under Sasse’s administration, two of his former Senate staffers — Raymond Sass and James Wegmann — were among the highest-ranking and highest-paid officials at UF.
Sasse has had virtually no positive impact on Florida's academic ranking in his short tenure. Nice spin tho. Best case is UFs ranking doesn't slide after the political interference coming out of Tally.
Rankings are determined in part (like 25%) by reputation - which is determined by interviewing people in higher ed. It's averaged over time, like 5 years I think. Bottom line - UF's reputation in higher ed is probably hurting right now, especially since we just literally let go 39 faculty. But all this talk about wasted spending isn't helping either. Time will tell...
If, if, if. We don't know any such thing. The fact is, though, that Sasse is not a dem and he bilked the univ for millions. Disastrous hire that makes UF (again) look bad due to horrible governance.
You call people boneheads right along with this claim. Sasse was woefully underexperienced & underqualified to lead UF. He's a politician, not an academic. He took your univ for millions and you call those who criticize him "boneheads." Weird
That's a red herring, 92. Typically universities seek individuals having experience at peer institutions for upper admin gigs. Harvard is not a peer institution, but your red herring is even more of a reach than that.
Examples include Charles Young coming from UCLA is probably UF's best hire ever. Bernie Machen came from Utah Kent Fuchs was Provost at Cornell - then became president at Florida. Vince Lombardi was a provost/Vice president at John's Hopkins. Just for context.
Well, "if if if..."--we don't know *if* the money was even actually *wasted*, let alone if the expenditures even yield a negative ROI. ....and again, that's without factoring for the unquantifiable good will purchased by his highly publicized actions vis a vis the Hamas sympathizers terrorizing Jews on campii...
the fact that you keep talking about this one thing as his legacy says a lot. He had very little legitimate academic high points to highlight. Honestly his biggest success (and it’s hard to say how much this was on him given how close the chairman is with desantis) was that Uf got like 900 million from the state of Florida. The most ever in appropriations. Im trying to think of something he actually did or led but the guy was MIA a lot of the time. I guess he can always say the Wall Street journal ranked us #1 while he was here.
I think all of those individuals held positions at state schools like Illinois, Purdue, Indiana, etc. Some of the admin work was in the Ivies & elites like JH, so your point is well-taken.
Yeah, no one's going to argue that Sasse was the sexiest candy on paper. At best, he seemed a serviceable candidate to navigate a political minefield, in the wake of our Uber qualified academic guy, tapping out, out of fear of that same perceived minefield. But hey, what can you say... Muschamp looked pretty good on paper, with Charlie Weis at OC... ...and MacElwain seemed reasonably calculated to...ok, nm Mac.... ...and Mullen seemed like a good idea at the time.... You never know how these things will play out, until the games are actually played. Cest la vie.
If we hired a politician to be football coach you’d probably feel differently lol. But I take your point.
Joe Glover is returning. I recall him being part of the problem when he was here. Am I wrong on that, @slayerxing?
