Buddys was a great place to wait out a thunder storm when skiing, cold beer and steamed buckets of goodness

How about La Familia for cuban sandwich or Shakey’s Pizza on sw 13

 

Cool. Way back in the 70s it was like kind of a coffee house atmosphere - acoustic entertainment, dimly lit with candles on tables, very cool for a 20 year old who spent more time at Allen’s Gator Haus drinking 99 cent pitchers of Busch or Old Milwaukee. Great for setting a nice mood with a date. Glad it’s still going

 

I don’t know about the 70’s but it hasn’t changed a whole lot since the 90’s. It was still pretty dim last time I went out there. Probably ‘21ish

 

We used to launch the boat, drive straight to buddy’s, eat, and head back to the ramp.

I still love going to eat on the water.

 

We used to go skiing in Cowpen over near Interlachen and there was a little BBQ joint on Hawthorne Road across from the lake. Same thing - ski until the afternoon thunderstorm, run across the road to eat and drink beer, then back out on the lake after the storm passed. Water would be pure glass for skiing

EDIT: My last year at UF I had my old 15’ with a 65 Merc sitting behind my trailer on Archer Rd. Life was good. I worked at the Shell station on Newberry Rd. my last summer at UF and I’d trailer the boat to work and then invite girls to go skiing after I got off. What a great life it was back in Gainesville!

 

There is one in Gainesville too...in the Tioga town center out Newberry Rd.

 

My parents usually stay in Ocala, so I meet them there from time to time

 

Then try the blue highway pizza on silver springs blvd east of the the downtown square (about 1 mile).

 

Ivy on the square (S.Magnolia) is pretty good also southern roots,

 

The Blue Highway Pizza in Ocala closed some months ago. Unsure if anything else has opened in its place.

 

My ritual on game weekends is to go downtown on Friday night, hit some bars and eat at Harry’s. Damn good crawfish etouffee there.
Saturday at Spurrier’s - either before the game or after, depending upon game time

 

I did go here. Tiny place. Felt like I was eating in someone’s home kitchen. Closed in 1995 or so.

I’ve eaten at Harry’s a few times, and the food on those occasions was unauthentic. I was really disappointed. But I’ll give it another shot now …

 

Yeah it’s not easy to be an “authentic “ Cajun restaurant 7 hours down the road from Louisiana. But I’ve always found their crawfish etouffee to be consistent and good. Give me a big bowl of that and a bottle of Tabasco and I’m a happy camper

 

I enjoy going to Harry’s when downtown on a football weekend, but have never been overly impressed with the food. I will have to give the crawfish etouffee a try.

 

I'll be around the corner at mojo, or a little further down at Mark's.

My parents live in Vero and those guys don’t know shit about Cajun or creole down there.
