Even if global warming is fake it is still worth it to stop pumping crap into the air. Right now it’s cheaper to build new solar plants than it is to operate coal plants. It makes economic sense to do away with all coal generated electricity and burning coal is nasty.

It seems to me that you accept the premise that CO2 is a greenhouse gas, its atmospheric concentration is increasing, and therefore we should expect warming of the planet. This in itself is notable, as many who don’t want to regulate the environment, start by rejecting the above premise. However, you are absolutely correct that what is happening and what we should about it are two totally independent issues.

As for what to do about it, it seems your answer is nothing. This is one possibility. Indeed, I think the left often discounts the tremendous economic harm that would come from eliminating the use of fossil fuels. Still, we in the US are wealthy enough, where I don’t think “nothing” is the only option we should consider. Like @ridgetop, I’m not a fan of geoengineering solutions due to the probability of unintended consequences. I do think there are no such environmental risks with reduction in emissions, since that would just send us back to a recent state. The challenge here will be economic, and I think we want any solutions here to include as much individual choice as possible. We should use markets to any extent we can and acknowledge the costs of our actions.

My two biggest environmental concerns at the moment deal more with ocean pollution. Micro plastics and changing the ph. But honestly everything is connected. All environmental issues start local.

I don't know, I see video evidence of the ice caps melting and in return the ocean is encroaching on Florida beaches. I haven't seen dunes in front of the condo in at least 5-6 years and the hurricanes are forming earlier because we are warming up enough for them to form earlier. Northern states are having hotter summers. I feel for those people in Maine who don't have A/C.

When we shut down for COVID the skies started to recover.

As per uge... our resident chicom puppets miss the point by a country mile, and merely resort to regurgitating approved talking points.

    @chicompuppets:

The documentary exposes pressure placed by the orthodoxy to compromise the actual inquiry and pursuit of truth, vis a vis climate change.

Reiterating the approved orthodox narrative does nothing to address the integrity of legitimate, sincere scientific inquiry and search, against clear financial motives to suppress and manipulate such--it only reinforces the effectiveness of such suppression.

I know, right. Talk about people that never did any of their own research, and that simply believe the Chinese funded crap about AGW. They think the United States is the only offending country and U.S. and only the U.S. has to stop all "carbon emissions" in order to SAVE THE PLANET, while China and the rest of the countries "pollute" at will.

That above part alone screams SCAM... And yet these simple-minded sheeple still believe it... LMFAO, like their life depends on it. These people are dumber than the "vaccine" clowns.

I usually ignore your nonsense but this works so well with my theory. Just like all politics is local so are all environmental issues. The only thing we can do is change our own behaviors so start there.

    I like this.
As a young dude, I was an avid fisherman.
I would frequently discard used plastic worms into the lake and the shoreline.
    I don’t do that anymore.
    Bam. Did my part.

I use to throw my beer bottle caps in the water that and the six pack rings. It isn’t much but it’s a good start.

I never said the Planet doesn’t have warming and cooling cycles. Of course it does. I just said I reject the entire boondoggle that we need to spend trillions and lock down every industry for something the ‘scientists’ say they can’t even determine what good if any it will do. Does it lower and overall temperature 1/2 a degree in 30 years ?

then I point to the hysteria about coral bleaching. OMG we are losing the reefs. OMG they are alll gone. Until…they aren’t and they grow back in robust fashion and the same ‘scientists’ that blamed warming are at a loss as to why the great barrier r reef came back to life. Until the next bleaching apocalypse that no doubt needs billions of funding

Funny. I'm kind of the opposite, in that I was and remain inherently hard wired to disdain and therefore refrain from any type of littering. since as oyung as I can remember.

....but don't view incidental macro economic pollution with the hypocritical judgementalism that so many envirofascists do, as I understand there's a cost to the environment of doing business (which isn't to say that environmental consciousness and responsibility at the corporate level is bad by any stretch--very much a virtue--but I'm just far more leery of enviro fascists than of capitalist waste).

Just because financial opportunists monetize climate change doesnt make it fake.

The climate and temperature are changing.

A lot of folks use important things to make money though and that can make us skeptical.

It's like Starbucks saying they don't want you to use straws because of Sea Turtles. It isn't about sea turtles. Most Starbucks aren't near the sea and most of us on the coast don't throw our straws in the ocean. It just sounds good, from a marketing perspective, to say that while really just cutting expenses.

But none of that changes the fact that Sea Turtles are really threatened.

This is another inconvenient truth about the side effects of warmer waters. So, now that the coral reefs are making a huge comeback, what will the alarmists blubber about next?

Huge Increase in Coral Produces Third Year of Record Highs on the Great Barrier Reef

Massive increases in coral across the Australian Great Barrier Reef (GBR) have been reported for 2023-24 making it the third record year in a row of heavy growth. Across almost all parts of the 1,500 mile long reef, from the warmer northern waters to the cooler conditions in the south, coral is now at its highest level since detailed observations began. The inconvenient news has been ignored in mainstream media which, curiously, have focused on a non-story in Nature that claimed “climate change” poses an “existential threat” to the GBR. “The science tells us that the GBR is in danger – and we should be guided by the science,” Professor Helen McGregor from the University of Wollongong told Victoria Gill of BBC News. The existential threat is “now realised” reported the Guardian.

Travelling back from the reality inhabited by the Guardian, it can be reported that last year’s gains were eye-catchingly large. On the Northern GBR, hard coral cover leapt from 35.8% to 39.5%, in the central area it rose from 30.7% to 34%, while in the south it went from 34% to 39.1%. The report is the result of monitoring of hard coral cover reefs from August 2023 to June 2024 by the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS). The percentage of hard coral cover is a standard measurement of reef conditions used by scientists and is said to provide a simple and robust measure of reef health. Similar reports have been published by the AIMS over the last 38 years.

For the first two years of record coral growth, the narrative-driven mainstream media ignored the recovery story. But this year, the suspicious might contend, something had to be done to blunt the sensational news of the stonking rises. Help has come in the form of a paper just published in Nature which uses proxy temperature measurements and climate models to suggest temperatures around the vast reef area are the highest recorded in 400 years. This time period is the blink of an ecological eye-lid given that coral has been around for hundreds of millions of years during periods when temperatures and atmospheric carbon dioxide have been markedly different. Nevertheless, this is said to pose an existential threat despite it being known that su
b-tropical corals thrive between 24°C-32°C, and in fact seem to grow faster in warmer waters.

I absolutely think the earth is warming. And I think we are seeing natural consequences from that.
So I think it’s mainly man made warming? No
Do I think there is much of anything we can do about it? No
Do I think government and “science” have found a way to monetize the fear of global climate change and capitalize off of it
    Yes.

Corals Have ‘No Reprieve’ as the Great Barrier Reef Faces Its Latest Bleaching Event - Inside Climate News
Double-Edged Recovery: Historically, bleaching events and other disturbances such as ocean acidification have decimated roughly half of the Great Barrier Reef’s coral. In 2022, a small window of low heat granted coral some time to grow and recover, during which scientists reported the highest levels of coral cover across two-thirds of the Great Barrier Reef in more than 36 years.
