Trump is held to a completely different standard for reasons I will never understand.

It is amazing that Harris, who ran a terrible campaign four years ago and dropped out once everyone realized she was completely over-matched, is now the darling of the Democratic Party. It can’t be because people were impressed with her accomplishments as VP because her approval ratings were brutal just a month ago.

The Republican Party crapped the bed by nominating Trump. This wave of popularity for Harris is definitely an anybody but Trump reaction in what is clearly a “lesser of two evils” election. The key for Kamala is going to be how she handles herself in unrehearsed interviews and debates as her ability to clearly get across her message has always been a struggle.

"It is amazing that Steve Young, who struggled under a terrible coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers four years ago and was nearly written off once everyone realized he was completely out of his depth under Leland Bennett, is now the hero of the football world. It can’t be because people were impressed with his performance back then because his stats were brutal just a few seasons ago." -- Some dude in 1991

People grow. Situations change. Perceptions change. Rock on.

Not sure your age but you should have learned, or will learn, that life is about answering the call. You don’t get to chose your opportunities.

Donald Trump failed when he was called and had the chance to elevate himself when elected. Harris so far has answered the call and it has won many over.

I’m really excited that there’s a new candidate that’s neither Trump nor Biden.

Not sure why it matters but I am in my early 50’s. Again, being how many Democrats still supported an obviously mentally unfit (to be US President) Joe Biden as their party nominee all the way up to his disastrous debate performance, I contend that Harris is simply also an “anyone but Trump” candidate.

I would also bet that if the Dems on Too Hot were being perfectly honest, Harris would not even be in their top-5 of preferred Democratic candidates. I also very much believe that had Biden backed out earlier, Harris would not have been the Democrat nominee but sometimes it is all about being in the right place at the right time.

You may have it backwards. Remember that the debate was when many people first began to strongly question Biden’s fitness for office. Before that, his long career and track record were seen as strengths by many supporters. It’s not accurate to say that everyone knew he was unfit before the debate—rather, the debate was a pivotal moment that influenced opinions.

It's hugely speculative to assume that Harris wouldn't be in the top five of preferred Democratic candidates without asking "Dems" directly. If winning the general election is the priority, then factors like incumbency and name recognition are significant. In my opinion, these advantages make her one of the top choices, and I suspect others might feel the same way. While some may have other preferences, dismissing her appeal outright overlooks the strategic situation she is in.

Virtually the only people mad about Harris being the nominee are GOP supporters who feel they are owed an easier opponent. Democrats were grounded enough to push out Biden so stands to reason they’d be grounded enough to skip over Harris she wasn’t wanted.

With regards to Biden, he clearly declined significantly between the state of the union and the debate. The debates are when it first became clear to most democrats that his age was truly an issue and not just a 4 year old GOP talking point.

I agree with the rest of your post. She is most certainly riding a wave of anti-Trump sentiment. She wasn’t in my top 5 and she most likely would have lost the primary. But I think the vast majority of the dem party is happy with how things shook out. The party is galvanized because they believe she can win.

"Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Donald Trump/JD Vance campaign rally in Montana. In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use.…And really, that song?"

Campaign is a shitshow. The supposedly uber rich trump doesn't want to pay to use the song (ironically about a sinking ship).

This isn't the first time musicians have demanded that Trump quit using their music.

Polling was showing from the start of the race that the voting public did NOT want a rematch of 2020. A lot of the Harris excitement comes from having their wishes fulfilled.
