Trump says he will immediately refill the SPR after he becomes Trump 47:

Trump says U.S. should fill up Strategic Petroleum Reserve immediately (msn.com)

Donald Trump said he would immediately fill up the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve if he becomes president in November, a move that could hike oil demand by hundreds of millions of barrels.

The SPR contained 375M barrels of oil, just over half its capacity and its lowest level since 1983, as of July 26, and returning the reserve to roughly the levels seen during Trump's presidency would require the U.S. to buy nearly 300M barrels of crude.

President Biden has been "using the strategic reserves, which is meant for military, which is meant for war and very important things, he's using it to try to keep gasoline prices down" in an election year, Trump said in an interview with Fox News.

The U.S. has moved to refill the SPR in recent weeks, taking advantage of a lull in oil prices; the Department of Energy said last week it had bought another 4.65M barrels.

The Biden Administration, Jennifer Granholm, has been talking about refilling since the spring of 2023 but has done very little to refill, talk, talk, talk:

US could boost rate of replenishing oil reserve, Energy Secretary Granholm says | Reuters

The Energy Department this year has been buying about 3 million barrels of oil per month for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve after selling 180 million barrels in 2022 following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

President Joe Biden, a Democrat, directed the sale, the largest ever from the SPR, in an effort to control gasoline prices after the invasion. But the move sank levels in the reserve to the lowest in 40 years, leading to criticism from Republicans that it left the U.S. emergency oil buffer too thin.

Trump is going to open up drilling and the demand won’t be an issue.

I do, the SPR should be refilled and not be used as a political pawn.

Trump wanted to refill it when oil prices crashed in 2020 and the Dems in the Senate blocked him from doing so. I guess it backfired because there would have been more oil for Biden to play games with when he released oil from the SPR. It also would have made the government a lot of money since Trump would have purchased the oil at very low prices.

Yawn. This is about the least important issue on the planet. No one cares. Not even you.

I don’t think it’s true that it’s reserved for the military

To my knowledge it has never once been used to supply the military.

It is usually to bail out oil companies themselves when they have refinery problems.

Those problems could be connected to things like hurricanes and conflicts elsewhere that don’t involve the US but do affect supply.

But I imagine Trump has no idea what it is for.

That's the downside of getting your news from Tucker Carlson and Cletus down at the waffle house. Okie has no clue that we are awesome on oil production.

Given the state of the world today (thanks Joe) with the Middle East in particular it is foolish to not have a sizable SPR.

What level do you want in there and how did you arrive at your decision as to the level that makes you happy and what was the downside of releasing to adjust the gas price by 17 cents a gallon?

Trump owes a lot of money to "daddy Vlad". American tax payers are about to re-ignite the Russian economy to save Trump yet again.

Yeah we all wish Biden hadn't invaded Ukraine or massacred those Israeli's but one would suppose it's pertinent that we actually export more oil than we import.
