This was mostly a press conference to say he had a press conference and mock Kamala for being either scared to, or incapable of, doing a press conference.
He had a press conference to pressure her to do a press conference? Harris to embark on a seven-state campaign blitz with her VP pick she’s pretty busy campaigning I’m a bit confused what the point is.
Why? What did you learn from Trump's rambling? That he has bigger crowds that MLK? He's probably cleaning up African American votes this week.
The point is they think her weakness is answering questions and actually having to talk with people rather than at people. Thus far, since she became the nominee, she has not held a single unscripted event or had an on the record discussion with press. She has literally only had events where she reads off of a teleprompter and off-the-record press huddles on her plane. So they’re going to hammer on “why, in three weeks, has Kamala Harris not answered a single question from anyone” until they can force her into having actual interactions with people. It’s why Trump did a news conference today, and why Vance did the “figured I’d come talk to her press gaggle so y’all have something to do” stunt yesterday.
I think Trump has done like maybe 7-8 events since the convention, he's hardly been campaigning himself. JD Vance has done more than him lately.
Also think the three debate proposal is brilliant, as it does very much look like Kamala thought she was going to be off the hook for the debates and wanted one at most.
I mean, Trump was starting to lose the election - I don't think he had a choice he had to engage in those debates IMO. It'll be interesting if this is actually an effective line of attack. She's campaigning pretty hard, but it's true she hasn't had a meaningful unscripted interaction since she was tapped. What's so funny is Trump isn't exactly the king of interacting with people. He says off the wall shit on the regular. I feel like the bar for Harris is pretty low - she'd have to completely bomb a press conference sorta like Biden with the debates I think for that to move the needle at all. But that's just my opinion.
These are all the same excuses we heard about Biden. The fact is, if she was able to hold a competent news conference, she would have done so by now or made an effort to give a couple of interviews. Even with a favorable press, her interviews in 2020 bombed badly and it led to her campaign crashing and burning. So it's not a surprise she is reluctant to give interviews or take questions.
The only thing that needs to be ironed out is that each network should be allotted an equal number of his lies, even if the same lies have to be repeated over and over. Any need for repetition of lies is no real problem since he keeps repeating them anyway.
IMO the reason they think it is a liability is likability, not the substance of anything she may say. Trump unquestionably says crazy things at times (even most times), but a lot of people find them entertaining and I think it’s probably actually part of his appeal for many supporters. Maybe she has improved as a campaigner since the 2020 primaries, but the idea of Kamala has always been a relatively attractive candidacy until people actually see her interacting with people. They’re betting that while “clapping, and pointing, and reading a speech Kamala” seems “joyful,” unscripted Kamala will turn people off the same way it did in the 2020 primary.
Harris should be answering questions. Simple as that. At least imho. But has trump actually faced many tough questions?
I love how you equivocate for anything that may reflect poorly on Kamala. He just held a news conference. It was fair game. If there were no tough questions, that's not his fault. Or perhaps they didn't seem like "tough questions" because Trump dispatched them with ease.
