I’ll be at Spurrirs when it opens without reservations, which have not been available for several months. Definitely possible to get seated and if not sit at the bar and get something to eat there. There are definitely a ton of more options and you will get better suggestions

I watch a couple channels of guys to go to different restaurants up in that area (Philly actually) and the littlest dump up there would be the best sandwich shop in the State of Florida.

And Italians. Exactly what I'm talking about. They definitely make up for the weather with some amazing food.

The Florida way. Take something time-honored and authentic and replace it with some pre-fab commercial chain. . . in a pre-fab, mixed-use development of course.

All true and I'm not sure why though. I guess as students come in from other places, they want to go to the same places they went to in Miami or Orlando so it's a tougher row to hoe for a mom and pop local place as far as name recognition goes.

I thought the burrito bros folks just got burnt out and retired. That seems like the most common reason a lot of classic local eatery's have gone away. They were special because of the people who ran them. Mac's drive thru started suffering immediately after they sold, imo. Even though Jon continued to cook until recently, the burgers changed. I'd almost just assume they closed down too instead of selling out, but I'm happy for the Mac's brothers.

Covid shutdowns definitely hurt some of these places and may have been the final straw, but I think most of them just didn't have a legacy to take over, and the OG's are simply retiring.

We have a guy from Philly making cheesesteak in pcola. He gets his bread from Philly. Best in pcola hands down.

Amoroso or Liscios rolls? I love them. Had a couple of places in Dallas that used them and made a good philly. One of the guys there was from Philly and owned a half dozen shops. They were the best.

There's a place in Gainesville now that has an ~OK~ philly. They started out using the amoroso rolls, but switched to Liscio's (I think) when Amoroso was having supply chain issues during covid.

I’m not sure as I don’t know which or which but I do know during Covid. He couldn’t get his bread and that shit was not worth eating.

I like Mojo, but knock it down a bit due to it being a chain and not even preparing their Q onsite.

Bread makes all the difference in the world! Probably Amoroso if he was having issues getting his bread during covid.

All you gotta do is go out down Archer Rd. on a football weekend and every chain restaurant in that area has a huge wait. I just don't understand it. I guess the students want what they are used to in their hometowns.

Probably the most unique restaurant left in Gainesville is Satchel's. Spurrier's is definitely on the list since it is the only location.

Speaking of Spurrier's, what is going on upstairs? It looks like its under renovation.
