Starts at the 3:30 mark in the video. Seems @Gatorrick22 may have propagated misinformation, again on Walz's 1st Amendment threats.

Walz was speaking about violations of local and federal laws regarding voting misinformation (National Voter Registration and Voting Rights Act).

 

Listening to the Democrat posters and reading between the lines:

1) Walz got the early word that his unit was going to Iraq so he quit and started running for office

2) Then official notice that his unit was going (or likely going) to Iraq was sent out.

No proof it wen5 down this way but it seems likely

 

You don't just quit, run for Congress on a whim, and win. Needs to be an election year, needs to be a vacant/winnable seat, and you need the backing of the party. That's not the type of thing that falls into your lap after you decide to retire from the military. That would all have to be in the works well in advance, and if everything does line up, there's no guarantee you'll get another similar opportunity if you pass it up.

The guy's entirely life has been public service. Even in the least favorable scenario to Walz, he served for 24 years and chose to run for Congress (and win) instead of deploying.

These arguments would hold more water if they weren't coming from people who support a candidate for President who lied about bone spurs to avoid any service. It just comes off as disingenuous.

 

Give ya credit. At least you don't twist into pretzels to disclose your hatred. You just throw some slop out there (about a guy who has had an amazing career and served his country in a multitude of ways). He's been a great governor and will make an outstanding VP.

Wallz was given a heads up that all or some of his battalion may deploy within the next two years at the time of his campaign announcement.


Two months later he retires.

His battalion ultimately gets deployed to Iraq a year after his campaign announcement.

In the Reserves, you can announce your retirement 9 months in advance. And preferably no less than 6 months in advance. There are also DOD rules that say a retirement can be delayed by the government if a Reserve unit is in active deployment and/or under imminent deployment orders should the DOD believe the Reservist is needed.

Walz knew that there was a chance his unit could be deployed. But he still filed his retirement paperwork months in advance, and as things ended up, Walz retired 2 months before his unit was deployed with an honorable discharge. After 24 years of service.

Had Walz's unit been deployed before his retirement date, he would have likely gone overseas and served past his original retirement date. But that's what not Plan A for Walz, as his plan was to retire and run for state Congress. Which he did.
