To me, this is more damning than the “guns I carried in war” BS.

Wanna know something fun? The internet never forgets: Tim Walz for US Congress

In March of 2005 his own congressional campaign had acknowledged that he was aware he might be deployed to Iraq, and had a very noble quote from Mr. Walz himself saying that “As Command Sergeant Major I have a responsibility not only to ready my battalion for Iraq, but also to serve if called on.”

    Whoops.

She could have picked Shapiro and I doubt anything like this comes back on Shapiro. But, the Jewish problem …

Why is this even a story when the other guy dodged the military due to "bone spurs"?

It’s certainly self-imposed and I’m not real clear how her folks doing background checks didn’t pick up on it. There were op-ed’s about this same issue published when he was running for governor that aren’t hard to find, and I would certainly hope they’d think to look at archived versions of his own campaign websites.

Because the other guy isn’t touting military service as a significant aspect of his public persona?

Yeah, that is false. That was not in his speech.

I think Kamala chose Walz because he seemed to her like the easiest one to control and because the logical choice (Shapiro) is Jewish and she’s not going to alienate her pro-Hamas voter base in Michigan. I’m not surprised she passed on Shapiro after skipping out on Netanyahu’s speech to Congress.

I guess it's a matter of semantics. As a member of a National Guard Unit Tim Walz was always subject to being deployed and in 2004 a number of Guard units were deployed to Iraq. That being said it still doesn't change the fact that the formal order deploying Walz's unit to Iraq were not issued until after Tim Walz had retired. He was no longer a member of the Guard when the orders were issued.

No, but he did say that his time clubbing was the same as serving in combat.

Donald Trump Calls Avoiding STDs His 'Personal Vietnam'

In an unearthed interview from 1997, Donald Trump claimed he was a "brave soldier" for avoiding STDs during his single years in the late '90s.

"It's amazing, I can't even believe it. I've been so lucky in terms of that whole world, it is a dangerous world out there. It's like Vietnam, sort of. It is my personal Vietnam. I feel like a great and very brave solider," Trump said in the interview when Howard Stern asked how he handled making sure he wasn't contracting STDs from the women he was sleeping with.

I think his defense to this attack is largely semantics. It consists of saying “he couldn’t possibly have retired to avoid going to Iraq, how would he know to do that, he hadn’t even been formally ordered to go to Iraq yet!” notwithstanding the fact that his own campaign website had acknowledged months earlier that the National Guard had already announced that his unit was likely to be deployed.

Yeah I’m not saying Trump isn’t a crass fool, just noting that the reason people are talking about Walz’s military service is mostly because Walz defines himself in large part on his having been in the Guard and is apparently a bit loose with the facts when doing so.

Here is what he said in the speech yesterday to define himself. Which part isn't true?

It’s almost like a guy who has been a political candidate or office holder for 19 years has given more than one public statement over the course of those nearly two decades, and no one here is limiting their criticism to a single speech given yesterday.

I understand the archive link I posted hasn’t hit the mainstream media yet, so you don’t know what the approved spin on it will be, but this is your chance to be the tip of the spear for the spin machine! Embrace that opportunity rather than trying to create nonsense distractions.

Yeah, this is kind of the whole point. Vance was actually honest about his time in Iraq. Vance could have easily embellished his experience there, but he didn’t. Iraq was a real theatre. OTOH, you have Walz who embellished his experience in Italy, which wasn’t even a real theatre.

Why would he tout something he avoided?
