In 15 years I never saw a woman who came in needing an emergency abortion. I did see more than a few women with ectopic pregnancies, some did require emergency surgeries. One ER I worked at saw 150k/ patients a year the other saw about 85k a year. Obviously I didn’t work 24/7 but I did work about 180 hours a month or more. I don’t think the number of women needing emergency abortions in the ER is some huge number, however if someone truly needs an emergency abortion medically they should get the care they need. If they don’t that opens people up to a huge medical liability and 35+ years of medical experience tells me doctors(particularly OB/Gyn) are very risk averse. Like I said at the outset the devil is in the details and the article was very sparse on those.
