As far as Phogat is concerned it seems that a good part of the blame lies with her coaches and the Indian wrestling federation and maybe even herself. According to the linked article the night before her match she was two kilograms (4.4 lbs) over the weight limit. She desperately tried to cut weight and fell less than 4 ounces short immediately before the match. Considering the consequences she should have never gotten to the point where she was over four pounds too heavy. Someone clearly screwed up and my deepest sympathy is with Phogat since she may never have the opportunity to compete for an Olympic medal again.

This is a matter of “weight classes” and that’s just how it works in wrestling and boxing. The weight requirement is a hard numerical limit. The ones that know they need to keep the weight down to fight in the lower weight class will resort to crazy things like fasting or sweating in a sauna to shed last minute pounds before their weigh in.

Commentators on Fox News shows have continued to spread false claims that two female Olympic boxers, Algeria’s Imane Khelif and Taiwan’s Lin Yu-Ting, are actually male, an allegation that gained steam after Khelif quickly defeated Italian opponent Angela Carini on Aug. 1. On Harris Faulkner’s Fox News show Monday, commentator Clay Travis said it’s “completely indefensible that these two individuals have been allowed to compete as women while they are biologically men.”

“You basically have two males, when it comes to the biology of it, beating up women,” Fox News contributor David Webb said Sunday night, while contributor Charlie Hurt said “this is about preventing a man from beating a woman to death at the Olympics.” Fox News contributor Lisa Boothe said that female athletes at the Olympics are having their dreams “stolen by men.” In another Sunday segment on Fox News, contributor Joe Concha asked, “How can a biological male boxer possibly be allowed to compete against a biological woman?”

Khelif and Lin are biological females, and the International Olympic Committee has said that both boxers are eligible as women to participate. A spokesperson for the IOC said the Algerian boxer “was born female, was registered female, lived her life as a female, boxed as a female and has a female passport.”​

Just a guess but I suspect that a number of the posters who refer to Khelif and Lin as as males watch Fox News or rely on similar right-wing sources and genuinely believe what they're reading or seeing is accurate.

 

You don't think there is anything abnormal about Khelif's biology at all? Is that your position?

 

You keep asking this. What would be "normal" biology? And why wouldn't anything that exists in nature be normal? There's a wide range of human biology, who are you to draw the line at what set of those people are abnormal freaks of some sort? If you are born without a toe do you have "abnormal biology?" Did Michael Phelps' condition give him "abnormal biology?"

My guess is that it's the product of Photoshop or similar graphics editing software. No groin guard in this photo and I could post many more. By the way a person with Khelif's condition (complete AIS) has female genitalia.

 

How can folks who are unable to define what a woman is .... claim Khelif is a woman? These are the same people who claim a man can get pregnant and have a baby .... or an abortion.

So, answer me this, if she is 100% a woman, why didn't she appeal the ruling saying she isn't? I know if it was my daughter I'd make sure she fought that until all avenues are exhausted.
