He's right. I did not soak it in when I played Olympic basketball, to my everlasting regret.

Interesting article on Olympics bikes and how rules are easily broken. Essentially, Olympic rules state that the bikes used have to be commercially available to the public ... the result is these bikes get listed for sale by the companies, at price tags up to $137,000. Not sure what the solution is, but they are basically building custom bikes on demand, then listing the bike on their websites at prices no one would pay. That seems to violate the spirit of the rule.

Caught up on some replays last night. US women didn't play particularly well, but beat Germany 1-0 and now play for gold against Brazil.
Cole Hocker's sprint down the straightaway to win the 1,500 was great. And Gabby Thomas looked so strong as she won the 200.
It's all been pretty great so far.

That sprint to win the 1500 and set a new OR was straight up awesome- even though i already knew the outcome. The dude has a kick.

I've gone so far out of my way to avoid Olympic results until the evening coverage by avoiding most of social media and ESPN.com. I saw the 1500 results on Reddit and had it ruined too. Bummer

so their competitor could buy and use the same bike..where is the harm unless the company is selling it to one country cheaper than the other

I think it's supposed to be like stock car racing used to be, where you're supposed to race commercially available production cars for the everyday person. That was the original appeal of a "stock" car.

Looks like they're skirting the spirit of the rule by selling these as a "production" bike but for 100k

ouch, less than 4 ounces overweight..you're out

Indian wrestling star Vinesh Phogat disqualified before gold medal bout after coming in 100 grams overweight (msn.com)

India’s star wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the Paris Olympics on the morning of her gold medal fight after coming in overweight, officials said.

Phogat was slated to lock horns with Sarah Hildebrandt of the US later on Wednesday after defeating Cuba’s Yusneylys Guzmán in the 50kg semifinal.
Sources told The Indian Express Phogat was about 2kg overweight on Tuesday night. She made a desperate bid to make weight by jogging, skipping and cycling through the night. But at a weigh-in in the morning she was still 100 grams over, the daily reported.

The Indian Olympic Association confirmed her disqualification at around 8.30am Paris time. “It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the Women’s Wrestling 50kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning,” it said in a statement.

It seems the intent of the rule was to keep a level playing field by requiring "off the shelves" bikes be used. They should perhaps change the rule to say something like "at least 1000 units must be sold", otherwise, just get rid of the rule.

As in IMSA racing nerd, I like the way they do it. I think the manufacturer has to produce 2500 units of a car for it to meet the requirements to race. And all of the cars are technically street legal, even after modifications. This is for their GT and GTD series.

Apparently she's now hospitalized with dehydration. They went so far as to draw blood to try and get her underweight. I expect some kind of punishment or something. Super unsafe
