I think a great deal of science is simply taking commonly held beliefs and attitudes and reifying them. I mean they could be persuasive or even right I suppose, but I still remember that passage from Foucalt about staring into the microscope and seeing ourselves. I'm sure I'm badly paraphrasing that, but that is sort of the nature of science, its always done in relation to ourselves, for better or worse. Another one of my beefs with "tribalism" as a concept is that we know next to nothing about human behavior outside of "civilization" ... not to mention the term's long association with so called "primative" & non-Western people. It has the taint of past pseudo-science and bigotry, but given the pseudo-intellectuals and cranks who often push this stuff, that is probably more of a feature than bug for them. There's nothing new under the sun, it seems. In my view this seems to be a way of isolating certain people from the legitimacy of "Western Reason" or whatever you want to call it. So like I said, it has that taint of chauvanism. I find it suspect that people have landed on this framing over a more prosaic label of pretty standard group dynamics not unique to our times.

November is going to be a long one for Republicans as Trump becomes more unhinged every day. This will be exactly like the “red wave” all the arrogant arseholes on the right predicted during the 2022 November mid-terms only to be proven laughably wrong.

I’m a big DeSantis fan, but no, he absolutely is not. And it’s kind of tough to take the rest of your analysis seriously when you claim things like that.

That’s certainly the hope is that everyone just sticks with “goofy nice Midwestern guy” and doesn’t dig on policies or what he’s said. But I’m not sure picking a guy that forces you to try to explain “when he said socialism is just being a good neighbor he meant the Scandinavian kind, not the kind anywhere else in the world and definitely not the Latin American kind” was the wisest possible choice.

 

Meanwhile back in reality, JD Vance actually is polling as the worst VP pick in history and it’s not even close. Lol.

 

Have you actually paid attention to Vance on the trail? Abysmal doesn’t even begin to explain it. Hella awkward and completely unable to relate to the average American. He’s absolutely up there with Desantis when it comes to charisma and Public speaking.
