Lost in the shooting and Biden stepping down has been that the GOP actually posted a platform this election cycle. Linked at the bottom is that actual platform. Curious if anyone is actually prepared to debate how this makes America great?

The preamble declares that America is a country in decline. This must be the type of decline characterized by being the largest economy, with the highest first world growth rate, with historically low unemployment, low crime rates that is investing in infrastructure more than ever, and cleaning up in the Olympics.

Regardless, after reading through the document Trump is promising some very unhinged stuff that is actually in the platform and some policies that straight up do the opposite of the intent. The language is bitter and vile and at times juvenile. But maybe someone can translate this into how it is good for America? What happened to the party of the shining city on the hill?

Just another point before debating the actual policies. I am not sure why anyone would trust their platform when:
    • In 2016, Trump said he was going to repeal and replace Obamacare only to wonder aloud “who knew healthcare could be so hard?”
    • In 2016, Trump said he was going to pay off the debt in 8 years while submitting the largest budget in history and increasing deficits every year before covid.
    • In 2016, Trump said he was going to save coal jobs and increase manufacturing which continued to erode under Trump to all time lows.
    • In 2016, Trump said he would grow the economy by 4 to 6% which never even reached 3% levels even with his massive spending.
    • In 2016, and every subsequent week, Trump promised to improve infrastructure but never enacted a single bill around it.
    • In 2016 Trump famously promised better border security with a wall that Mexico was going to pay for and we all know crossings increased every year until covid and he proposed nothing then squashed the only bill that was supported bi-partisan and by border patrol.
    • He promised that he would get better deals in the world but we ended up with a record trade deficits with both China and Mexico.
    • In 2016, Trump promised to bring down drug price which didn’t happen until Biden signed his own bill
    • After attacking Obama over his golfing for years, Trump promised he would not have "time to go golf" but ended up spending a third of this presidency on the course.

On your last bulletpoint about spending 1/3 of his time golfing, you neglected to point out that he spent the remaining time watching TV and Tweeting.

I find it hilarious that the Rs want to both deport 11 million undocumented immigrants while lowering inflation at the same time. It's just not economically possible to do both. Deporting 4% of our labor force would create massive shortages, which would, as the article states, reignite inflation. Deporting this many would also cause others to lose jobs as well. Okun's law states that employment rises and falls with GDP, and how can we deport up to 50% of our agricultural workers without seeing a drop in the $1 billion GDP a year we produce from foodstuffs?

Just red meat to fire up his base. Being far too generous to expect anyone to think it all the way through.

A few highlights in the expanded platform I see

Build the Wall is back baby!

Freedom to read the bible in school! Because I guess they think that's illegal?

A task force to investigate anti-christian harassment in America.

    Iron Dome!

Fire woke left wingers from the military!

    This isn't a platform, it's a magical wish list.
More hot air and empty promises from Trumpf.

Even the language is terrible. I mean vetting for terrorists and foreign agents is valid and already done, but WTF is with the nuttery way of stating that?

So, just a bunch of words with ill-defined concepts that vaguely set some nebulous goals without outlining any sort of plan.

Can't attack that on its merits - cause it has none - but it all sounds great wrapped in a flag!

Inflation is at historical lows. Are they going to practice socialism and go after price gougers?

I liked how they restated "Make America the dominant energy producer in the world" which we already are, to, "Make America the dominant energy producer in the world by far" because, we already are but they will have an AMP that goes to "11"!

I guess the braintrust isn’t worried about “proven reserves” of oil, let alone the environmental catastrophe of such policies.

Some points sound great. And then there’s no. 20 which is outright laughable as one of their platforms.
