I guess this further shows the disconnect between the two sides, because I was getting on to say this seems like a misstep and it’s not clear to me who they think he appeals to whose vote they didn’t already have (fairly similar to Trump’s selection of Vance actually). One of Kamala’s biggest vulnerabilities is the ability to paint her as a California radical. They’re tying to combat that by insisting that no she’s middle of the road just like Joe. Picking Walz plays right into that though. Expect to get consistently bombarded with: excused race riots that burned his state, close to Ilhan Omar, mask Nazi, has said he wants closer relations with China, and embraced the socialism label. Minnesota has weird super progressive politics that don’t likely play well on the national stage, and I’m not sure I understand why you would want to in any way tie your national ticket to the Minnesota Democratic Farm Labor Party. He’ll be really popular amongst people who were already solid Democratic voters, but not sure I get what he’s supposed to add other than that.
Party unity, that's what he adds. Keeps the vibes going. If it was between him and Shapiro, choosing him avoids a months long proxy fight over Israel/Palestine policy between Dem voters under/over 40, as well as the possible fight over Shapiro covering up for a crony who was a sex creep. The only upside for Shapiro was delivering a couple points in PA, which is unclear to me if a VP has that power. Biden's biggest danger was Democrats not showing up from being demoralized on many fronts, a happy party will show up. Its not like Walz is especially cool on Palestine either, he just didnt make a point of comparing campus protestors to the KKK, or undermining Larry Krasner at every opportunity. Sometimes that's all it takes. FWIW I think people would have been just as cool with Bashear, and I'm not sure what he adds either, electorally.
Unless she picked Nikki Haley righties arent going to like the pick. But this guy is very relatable to normal people who arent predisposed to hate someone just because they have a D on the ballot. He has great answers for feeding hungry children that i'd love to get a chance to hear with millions of Americans.
Just a guess but they're probably the same commentators and Republican politicians who thought that Kamala Harris would be even easier to beat than Joe Biden. From Fox News in early July. Kamala Harris is not qualified or capable of being president: Tulsi Gabbard
The issue isn’t “righties,” it’s whether he’s gaining any meaningful number of votes they didn’t already have (and not losing any they did). And I’m not convinced he passes that test. Literally anyone the Dems ran was going to get the votes of hardcore progressives, because Trump hate alone was enough to motivate them. But when the Trump campaign was flopping around struggling to find the right message to hit Harris on, picking the guy who required Minnesota schools to stock tampons in the men’s bathroom, and who can be painted as the face of Minneapolis getting burnt down in riots (while he and his wife mocked “the law-and-order folks”), and who has called himself a socialist, gives the Trump campaign the effective message they were too dumb to find on their own: this is the most radical ticket any major party has ever run and they wholeheartedly embrace the most out there far-flung crazy excesses of progressivism that most of the middle of the country doesn’t like. Now, they’re going to need to market that message better than calling it “the woke mind virus,” but there’s a big swath of people who don’t particularly like Trump, but who also don’t want to be San Francisco, who this puts solidly back in play for Republicans if they can capitalize. To me, it seems like Kamala fell for the MSNBC anchor’s vision of “Oooh, a fat bald white Midwestern guy! That’s what everyday Americans want to see!” without thinking through how his actual policy record would play with her ticket.
Getting convicted doesn't mean you did it. No sane person thinks Trump raped the lady whose cat is named Vagina
Im actually someone who would never vote for Trump and am also worried about wokeism. I also don’t much care about VP picks, but perhaps others do.
Wrong. Walz is extremely charismatic and knows how to connect with the people, unlike JD “negative rating” Vance. This election is going to be a complete blowout by the time November rolls around as Trump and Vance continue to make complete asses of themselves on the daily. Buckle up.
