We an't losing to Miami, unless we have a bunch of turnovers(Knock on wood). We play a clean game and we win going away.
It is an opportunity to set a tone. Yes it is important. Home opener versus an in state rival. That said, no need to say the season is over if we lose this one. As others have stated, also looking for quality of play, being onn focus, sound execution. Even if we win, if we look like the keystone kops in the process, that too would be disturbing. Take care of business and beat the canes! GO GATORS!
The Miami game will not make or break Billy’s tenure. But if he loses on 08/31, I don’t see how he can win 7+ games and have a successful season. Then all bets are off regarding his future at UF.
Nah, you just stick with your what if we lose stuff. No need for me to start a thread on anything right now
I agree with this precisely. A loss does not clinch a losing season, but it makes one very likely. And — understanding all of the arguments to the contrary — I think a third consecutive losing season would be the end for Napier, regardless of any promises, buyouts, or desires for him to get seven bites at the apple. So to the OP’s point, from my perspective, much and more rides on the team’s performance during the Miami game. I hope the Gators come out loaded for bear and angry.
The next game on the schedule is most critical. I know it's Coachspeak, but if it ever applied, the buzzsaw this team is about to run into is where and when. No sleepwalking allowed. So yes, it's Miami.
It's a very important game for several reasons. 1. First game since all the changes in off-season. Where will we improve and where will we have issues? 2. Sets the tone for the remainder of the season. 3. It's a home game. If we want to be taken serious, we need to treat home field as sacred ground. So we lose and the season's over? Not even close. It's how we play that really matters. We improve in key areas and lose a close one, especially if low-scoring, won't kill the season. Miami is no pushover, will most likely be ranked close to the Top 15. It all comes down to how we play. Put it this way, if we win a close one but make the same mistakes as in the prior 2 years means the season could be in jeopardy. We just got lucky and had the home field advantage.
and I have a Coke bottle right here proving our 1984 SEC Championship with all of the scores. 27-0 against the leg-humpers was especially nice
ACC officials...look at the last quarter of the last game in Orlando against them. It was borderline Swindle.
10… First game of the season against a hated rival… Don’t think for a second that a lot of recruits aren’t going to be watching this game. I really feel like this could set the tone for the whole season. lose this game, and the other coaches we're battling with for recruits will be shouting from the rafters that Billy won’t be there next year.
I almost feel like you are coming around to how impressive that would be, meaning we likely are likely a top 20 in power index at that record.
No need to come around to it. Seven regular season wins would mean we are unequivocally on the right track.
