US Reporter Evan Gershkovich Released By Russia in Major Prisoner Swap - Bloomberg

Russia is releasing Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and former US Marine Paul Whelan as part of a major prisoner swap with the US, according to people familiar with the situation.

The men, jailed in Russia on espionage charges they and the US deny, are en route to destinations outside of Russia. The US and its allies will return prisoners to Russia that they hold under the deal, the people said, asking for anonymity to discuss matters that aren’t yet public.

Great news for those guys and their families. I wonder what heinous characters got set loose by the US. Arms dealers? Spies?

Not sure. But the original Russian Plan was likely to wait for Trump to be elected but they have given up hopes of that as his campaign implodes like a 1950's Russian tank hit by a Ukrainian operating a US drone.

This is great news for the "prisoners" and their families. The talking heads are saying this could be a big number of total prisoners exchanged when it is all done.

Yes. I wouldn't be surprised if Putin also sends the golden showers video to CNN or Pornhub. "No need to hold on to it now," he'll say. "Trump apparently doesn't have a single U.S. classified document left to sell to us. And he certainly won't be getting any more."

One has to wonder if Putin is starting to give up on Trump. Hmm...

"Laughing hyena" in contrast to the cognitively diminished unhinged grifter? While Putin would undoubtedly prefer the easily manipulated latter maybe he is starting to face reality. Not saying that Harris will defeat Trump in November but the odds are much better than they were of Biden's reelection.

    Hitman.
Vadim Krasikov, a Russian freed from jail in Germany on Friday in a prisoner swap between Moscow and the West, was convicted of the murder in 2019 of a former Chechen militant as he walked in broad daylight in a park in central Berlin. The three shots fired from a Glock pistol on a sunny August day were deemed murder "with especially serious aggravating circumstances" - the most serious conviction possible under German law.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Trading out some total scumbags to get our peeps back versus " why aren't trying harder to get our people out?".

Biden exchanged a hitman for the hostages. Trump would have exchanged the country of Ukraine.

    Hostages are free

    https://www.wsj.com/world/russia/evan-gershkovich-free-cde745b3

Gershkovich and other Americans left Russian aircraft at roughly 11:20 a.m. ET at an airport in Turkey’s capital, Ankara. Gershkovich was then transported to an aircraft lounge on a Turkish bus. Russia had kept the 32-year-old behind bars for more than a year on a false allegation of espionage. It sentenced him in a hurried and secret three-day trial to 16 years in a high-security penal colony.

Moscow also released former Marine Paul Whelan, journalist Alsu Kurmasheva and Vladimir Kara-Murza, a British-Russian dissident and Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, sentenced to 25 years in prison on treason-related charges. Russia also released a number of political dissidents.

The sweeping deal involved 24 prisoners and at least six countries, and came together after months of negotiations at the highest levels of governments in the U.S., Russia and Germany, whose prisoner, Russian hit man Vadim Krasikov, emerged as the linchpin to the arrangement.
