Trump couldn't answer the question right off with something like two words, "We'll see." No, first there had to be the usual flood of Trump sewage. I wonder if the studio has a shower where the lady could run to.
I think you are thinking of this too narrowly, as if the Democratic Party is the only entity involved in this. This is a presidential election. Of course he doesn’t have to debate her. He doesn’t have to be president either. We should never be voting for someone who won’t even defend their own qualifications for the job.
As polls continue to shift in her favor (VP pick and convention coming up) I think it will force Trump’s hand and he’ll have to. But until that happens he would be wise to decline.
Trump is the clear favorite if the debate is about sharks and electrocution and how he defeated Nancy Pelo...er Nikki Ha...I mean Obama during WWII
Funny you say that. I've been thinking all along Harris should be tweeting out that she is studying the many species of sharks and the basic mechanics of how electricity and salt water interact so they can actually have something to discuss on the debate stage.
He held a debate. He won the debate. Think about this. Lets say Kamala bombs in a debate, does Trump then have to debate a 3rd person? It seems silly that democrats are taking a high horse position on this. They are the ones who bailed on a second debate by pulling a losing candidate. It isnt Trumps job to help them recover from that. (I will now go shower for defending him. )
Exactly. Its not his job to fix what his opponent broke. It seems the Democrats are the ones that bailed and chickened out. I mean they benched the nominee of the people out of fear, .....because of a debate. How are they going to straight faced blame Trump for not jumping in to help them recover. Politics is so stupidly transparent.
Is that what's happening? The dems screwed this up. A historical screw up. A Lot of things are Trump's fault. But how is this his fault? Why does he owe the dems a second chance?
I mean it still is. It likely cost them additional debates/opportunities to sway voters. It isn't Trump's job to fix their mistake.
Perhaps, but only after the Democrats were chicken shit for turning on their nominee because they feared losing. (Hyperbole to make a point) He owes them nothing. Might be the only thing I give him credit for all year, but he shouldn't help them.
So what exactly are the D's supposed to do if their original candidate is not available? There is not enough time to have another round of primaries, so would you have them just forfeit the race to the gop? Whether he owes them anything is beside the point. Grow a set, get on stage and engage her in a debate about the issues and about policy. At the end of the day he is too chicken shit to do so.
Exactly and nobody understands this better than Donald Trump. It would actually tarnish his candidacy if he bailed out Kamala on the debates. Last I saw he's willing to debate her on Fox. If you're Kamala Harris, you have to accept that. Fox was pretty fair in the 2020 debate. She doesn't have a leg to stand on with this. Biden didn't leave her with one.
You seem to be missing the fact that the D's original candidate not being available was a choice the D's made.
I’d vote yes. If either candidate gets replaced for any reason, at any point I would want a debate between D nominee, the R nominee and any serious 3rd party candidate (sorry RFK Jr. I’m not saying you) before voters go to the booth. Same with the final VP selections of each President. The debates should be used to inform the voters, not as political tools of either side and I’d love for a truly non-partisan organization to host the debate (but that is wishful thinking).
He should debate whoever is his challenger, as always. The norm has long been three debates among the major candidates. If your new proposal is that we now ask candidates to debate only until they win one, I for one will vehemently oppose your idea. Trump and Harris aren’t competing for a BCS title; they are vying to become the president of the United States. If a candidate can’t take two hours out of their life to personally engage their chief opponent, they should no longer be a candidate, period.
This is the key point. Tilly seems to think that because the Democrats want a debate, appeasing the Democrats is the chief function of the debate. However, the debates are for us, not them.
He should but it’s not required. I think it would ultimately hurt him badly if he never debates her. Because he’ll look like an incredible chicken shit.
Trump is stuck here. If he debates her, the difference in their mental faculties is going to look the same as it did for Trump and Biden, but in the opposite direction. Trump has no substance and Harris will be able to capitalize on that. If he doesn't debate her, Harris and the Dems will push the narrative that the criminal is scared of the prosecutor which will likely be quite effective.
