So we could pick a less qualified white man over the Black woman who has the party unified and energized? There is no argument that Pete Buttigieg is anywhere near as qualified as Kamala Harris. You are entitled to like the politicians you like. But you made this about qualifications and merit and then picked two people who are objectively far less qualified. I'm just going let this convo go because I don't it going anywhere. You're entitled to your opinion. But saying you don't value qualifications in politics after talking about "merit" in politics isn't helping your argument imo. Unless we're talking about the rare type like Eisenhower, I don't see it.
she was elected with the full weight and force of the Calif dem party behind her. she got the full force of the dem party behind her after she started dated Wellie Green, a powerful king maker in the party much older than her. she used what she had to get ahead, good for her. smart, attractive, savvy. If she is 250 lbs and never dates Willie Green and gets the dem power brokers behind her, what is she? not PC to say but how does one just ignore it like it isn't reality? she did nothing of substance in 4 years as a VP
Buttigieg has run city and has run a major department at the federal level as the executive leader in those groups. His communication skills and reaonign on his feet are head sand shoulders above Harris. What did Kamala accomplish the last 4 years? other than getting the political machine behind her to push her forward, what has Kamala done?
Politics. The only profession where having years of professional experience is a negative to some. I'll never understand it. Surgeon A has been doing this for 30 years, but surgeon B was a highly successful lawyer, and I like the fact he brings an outside perspective! Sounds crazy, doesn't it? Yet, we get that with politics all the time. Harris has way more experience than Kelly. Nobody knew who Kelly was before his wife Giffords was shot. And Kelly had never won an election before 2020, because he had never run before. Now, I like Kelly a lot, as he's a good person, and good communicator. But if we're going on experience running a country, Harris is way more qualified.
On the flip side I could see him assuaging the concerns that some moderates & independents might have about perceived anti-semitism in the far left side of the democratic party. I personally don't give shit about the Gaza sympathizers. I think they vote Kamala no matter what.
She was on the ticket with Biden and helped him win the presidency. Last I checked, VP > Secretary of Transportation. And while Pete served as mayor of South Bend, Kamala served as AG for the entire state of California and U.S. Senator. Anyways, enjoy the rest of your day.
The mayor of San Francisco was Willie Brown and she dated him 30 years ago, he’s 90 now. He recommended her for state boards but he also recommended/mentored other men and women. You act like this is unusual. Men trade on their relationships EVERY DAY. As far as her doing nothing of substance, here ya go: She was charged with dealing with the root causes of migration from Central America. She regularly met with the leaders of Mexico and the northern triangle countries to slow down human trafficking and invest in public safety in areas where high crime rates drove migrants north. The results: 2021-2023 Honduran encounters dropped 50% Salvadorans dropped 60% Guatemalan migration dropped 50% Mexican migration dropped by 6% In addition, she(we) got 56 companies to invest 5Bdollars in those countries to address economic migration. These figures came from Sen. Chris Murphy CT Another question, can you name any major accomplishments of ANY VP? Just edited, the amount of money invested was 5B, not 56B. Was typing quickly and didn’t catch it. Sorry
I like Kelly for VP. Among the variables that go into picking a candidate for any office is electability. Got to be elected. Some who would potentially be better leaders just aren’t as electable as another. The political choice part of it matters a lot. Got to get elected.
Trump stated that he was going to nominate a woman to replace RBG on the Court, and he did that by nominating Barrett. I'm personally not a fan of announcing that candidates will be chosen based upon immutable traits; however, I do think diversity is a positive all else considered, and it's not as if there is only one person in the country who is qualified to be a VP or Supreme Court Justice at any given time. I have differences with Barrett, and she was appointed for life whereas Harris won't be President unless she wins the election. In any event, Justice Barrett was qualified in my view, and I haven't heard people mocking her for being a DEI hire. I also suspect we won't hear much about DEI when Harris almost certainly picks a White man to be on her ticket. Trump Pledges Woman for Court, Pushes Senate to Move on Pick – NBC Bay Area
If that's all ya got... Trump is actually running stronger in the betting markets with the switch from Biden to Kamala.
I'm not sure if people are cherry picking from different markets, but the most recent I could find from Fox News is below. Harris closes in on Trump in election betting markets Harris closes in on Trump in election betting markets Harris has gained about 22 points on Trump over the last week in betting markets
But Kamala’s husband is Jewish, not that it makes a lick of difference. I don’t think the religion of the candidate will play much of a role.
Beshear would be my pick. Nothing against Kelly, and I think nationally, Kelly might be a slightly better pick than Beshear. But this election will come down to the midwest rustbelt states. Kelly is from Arizona, and although he has Jersey roots, Beshear is from Kentucky. I think he has a better chance of delivering states like OH, PA, and WI.
He has been great so fa the trail since Kamala took over. Short time to judge, but he’s been very effective, particularly at countering Vance. But what happens if Trump quickly dumps Vance and picks someone more credible? (Remember, Trump Jr wanted Vance because he is disliked by the “mainstream” and thus more likely to deter Congress from seeking another impeachment).
Especially after Trump invited Bibi Netanyahu for dinner at Mar-a-Lago and said that Israel should "finish the job".
