    Too bad they didn’t all default. One commentator: “The can-can dancers looked like they were on their second practice” …

    And I always laugh when people think they can interpret John's thoughts when they obviously haven't looked closely at them, but sure love to comment on them.

    Yoko wrote a book in 1964 called Grapefruit. It was mainly passages and poems. One of the main passages that John cited for the writing of Imagine was Cloud Nine. It says, "Imagine the clouds dripping. Dig a hole in your garden to put them in."

    He and Yoko were also given a Christian prayer book and it, along with Yoko's passages, inspired them to write Imagine. He said it was not an attack on religion. That's false. He said it was about positive prayer and a world at peace with no denominations of religion--not without religion itself--a marked difference.

    That as opposed to the many religions that have started holy wars and have ravaged history. The Crusades, the many wars in the 16th and 17th centuries (Knights, Kappel, Eighty Years, French Huguenot, etc) and those afterwards. Imagine was meant as asking if we could trust our governments and our religions to bring world peace when many of them have brought multiple wars that have killed hundreds of millions of people up to his 1971 composition.

    I do agree it probably shouldn't be played at the Olympics. I believe it is only used because of the peaceful lyrics since the countries are brought together in peace to compete. As you said, the Olympics embraces each country's differences but allows them to all participate and celebrate their country or culture, etc.

    Imagine was meant as a place without someone being attached to country, politics, etc. The song has definitely taken on a life of its own for very many different themes and I believe that points to the masterful songwriting of John Lennon, whether you agree or disagree with him/his lyrics, politics, etc.

    Thank you for this. I didn’t know the background to the song. Your third paragraph, is that Lennon’s thoughts or your interpretation?

    In most cases with music, all I can do is take the words at face value, as I suspect most people hearing this song do. The song begins with imagine no heaven, no hell, and above us only sky, which seems to imply there is no God. I suspect most people would hear it that way.

    Likewise, when he says imagine no religion, I take that to mean imagine no religion.

    I’m glad you say that Lennon had some Christian influences in this life, if only the prayer book. Personally, I thought he was moving closer to certain Christian values near the end of his life. That could be an interesting thread to discuss sometimes. I was very sad when he was murdered.

    Thank you for your insight. I’m glad we at least we agree that the song is inappropriate for the Olympics. I agree with you that people like the peace message in the song, and love singing the chorus. I admit the song is very singable with a great tune.

    Since you apparently have studied Lennon and Yoko’s music, you might be interested that I met Yoko‘s first husband and their daughter back when they were on the run. But that’s a story for another thread. :D

    It was interesting watching beach volleyball when all the workers and spectators were wearing heavy coats to stay warm. Even the women swimmers came walking in wearing what looked like winter coats. All this in the summer Olympics. o_O

    I have seen this floating around, but all you have to do is look at the Depiction of "The last Supper" and the drags queens. They also had a decapitated head and a showed a threesome to a time slot where many children could see this. In my study of Daniel; Babylon was foretold to come to the end in Daniel's dreams and interpreter of Nebuchadnezzar's dreams and Belshazzar's Just prior to Babylon's fall. The Babylonian's fall to the Persian's led by Cyrus. Also, the visions became progressively more developed as they depict God's divine judgements on Israel, His people, unto it's final destruction as a Nation. The Persian's (Medo-Persian), Greek's and Roman's all had depictions of the Last Supper and many other Christian "art".
    Nebuchadnezzar's dream:
    Head of Gold(Daniel 2:32, 37-38) babylon
    Chest and arms: Medo-Persian's
    Belly and Thighs:Greeks
    Legs of iron:roman
    Stone cut out w*o hands: God's kingdom/The Church

    Daniel 7
    four beast
    Lion=babylon
    Bear=Medo-Persian
    Leopard=Greek
    Unique, terrible beast=roman

    Daniel 8
    Ram & Goat
    Ram(with 2 horns)Media and Persia
    Male Goat_Greece
    4 horns(from single horn)4 generals, one leads to ROMAN Empire.

    See how intermigled all these Empire's were to God's people and his word?

    Interesting, Maybe this is God's way of warning us of our secular interest of what the Gospel considers sin.

    The picture on the soccer games is muted. Not nearly as bright and crisp as we usually get.
    But while I wondered about the whole thing being streamed, the fact that you can go to Peacock and pick from any number of live or replayed events is pretty cool. Not that I'm likely to go watch badminton, live or replay.

    Never seen anything like this before, but it's the 1/2 cruise ship 1/2 cargo ship the surfers are living on in Tahiti.

    US basketball. Will be the last time we’ll see James, Curry, Durant play together in Olympics, may not see any of them in one again. Ages 39, 36, 35. 4th Olympics for Durant.
