There's a meme that describes it perfectly.

Who said these college athletes don't have to go to classes?

Your not wrong but then why do in home visits, why bring the parents on OV's and give them special tours of the academic centers and presentations about what the school can do for their child after sports?

to me It seems like there is still a contingent out there that still cares about those aspects. And many times it still seems like the parents have a huge influence on the kids decision. And maybe the academic thing is not as important anymore to many but for a school like Clemson to get 99% graduation rate and then UGA to come in with a 41% is crazy. I feel like at least half the kids graduating would be automatic. At 41% You would almost have to try purposefully to be that bad.

It's not that difficult to graduate from Clemson. As I have said before, the ACC bluebloods look at Clemson as a cow college. So do others. If the graph is correct, didn't the NCAA a few years ago tie graduation rates to scholarships?

41%? Looks like Saban didn't teach him all the tricks. Keep it up Kirby! I want to see the fireworks when this program blows up.

I'm not in disagreement with you on the tradition and despise its loss. However, I feel like the era you describe has passed. I love UF and the academic excellence and integrity it stands for as well. However, in reality these players are not coming to UF as a budding scholars longing for an education. They are coming to get paid and get to the league or the association as quickly as possible. Its a really sad state of affairs, but it is what it is and it ain't ever going back.

Nobody. But why should it be required for those that don't want to? They are being paid to come to a school to play football, not be a student.

Sad . . . but this could be the subject matter of the next clever, class action lawsuit against the NCAA.

Since the class action for imaginary NIL was filed (and I think settled), I was thinking about a class action for all the imaginary meetings with agents and imaginary commercials some "could" have chosen without the ridiculous burden of attending college classes instead. LOL! :)

I think part of our fairly narrow diff here is generational, plus the fact that hope springs eternal even at my age. I understand and agree that within what BN and the administration deem appropriate, we must compete aggressively in NIL. Of course we do. I just want BN to keep doing exactly what he's been doing with making talent, character and grades the price of admission to the UF locker room. I see young men like VBIII with astronomical upside as a WR and the grades to match and others like DJ who dwell on a different level than anything we've seen in years. Those are easy top of mind examples and I'm too lazy to look at the roster for other faves. But IMO, we have at least decent to very good talent across the roster with some very bright spots - and there has been an infusion of talent from the portal that could work out really well. We also have taken the first definite step forward depth-wise I've seen in four or five years. But the bottom-line problem as you mentioned earlier is that we have plenty of evidence of progress but are still waiting for proof on the field. That is an over-arching reality there is no arguing with. But since there's nothing that can be done to rectify that unhappy situation until the afternoon and early evening of 8/31, I'm reverting to shameless Gator fan mode and enjoying the approach of CFB - Coming to a Swamp near you. GG! Beat Miami!

Well, they certainly can not tell momma they care about there sons education with a 41% graduation rate, and there is still a lot of momma's who care a lot about that. We just need to ensure momma knows. ;)

The creepiest part of this is that the victim of the "Cruelty to Children" charges is his underage girlfriend who lives with him in student housing. She's been living with him since she was 15.
