Pay no attention to the link title, it's the second article. NIL has been an interesting point of discussion with the Florida Gators since it became the way of the land in 2021. The public perception is that Florida is lagging behind other institutions and has been at a competitive disadvantage these past couple of seasons. A new report indicates that Florida has actually been doing quite well with getting athletes paid. Whether or not it's the athletes fans would prefer to get paid is a different discussion. The other breath becomes complicated depending on what fans want from Florida as an athletic department. 498 NIL deals help Florida maintain its status as an "everything school," and this past year was no exception. Baseball and softball made deep post-season runs to their respective College World Series, gymnastics made the final four, lacrosse also made the final four, men's swimming finished third, women's track finished second, and men's track won the national title. Florida's NIL efforts are going to continue to be a topic of conversation as schools try to figure out how to best pay their athletes and stay competitive in the modern landscape. List compiled by JustGamblers - too funny. There's still a lot of secrecy regarding the money budgeted for each program. For football, Ohio State supposedly leading the way with $20M. Ohio State players received 'around $20 million' in NIL, believed to be largest amount in college football
If we were even considering paying Rashada 3 million a year, what do you think DJ is getting? Something similar I would guess.
DJ turned down a lot more than what UF offered due to his relationship with Napier and a couple of other UF support staff. Most other kids would have taken the money and not honored their commitment. We are fortunate he and his family are honorable people.
I never saw anything on the actual size of the $ bags being offered, but I did find the following using co-pilot: DJ Lagway, a highly sought-after five-star quarterback, made a visit to Texas A&M just before National Signing Day. The Aggies made a strong push to flip his commitment from Florida, where he had been committed for a long time. Despite the efforts from Texas A&M and other schools like USC, Lagway remained committed to the Gators. Again, I don't have any idea what was offered, but fortunately it wasn't enough. Co-pilot listed multiple sources, so there's no controversy about TAM making a serious push to land him.
Oh I have no doubt there were other offers, I just question the source of the information that he was offered "a lot more" by other institutions. Considering we don't even know what UF's NIL offered him to sign, its hard to come to a conclusion whether that is a reasonable statement.
Probably more like an opinion. Some site or other is saying DJ got a Mil per year but that's probably guesswork too.
Got it from the people involved. Start with Gary Condron if you know him or know anyone else that does. Without Gary we wouldn’t have near the players we have.
