From time to time between insults and snark, moderate posters, "leftists"so called on this forum, have puzzled and speculated as to why Trump continues to have the loyal and vociferous support displayed by some of his MAGA fans who post on this forum. 'Why do you post on Too Hot' would be an interesting enough question, but I'd like to take it another step. Why is Trump your choice for president? Hoping for replies that explain your attraction to him as a candidate and POTUS in spite of his numerous flaws, lies, self aggrandizement, crassness, and cruelty - what drew and has continued to draw you to pledge yourself to DJT?
To add - this is a serious and sincere question. I don't want to see any snarky insults, distractions or rude comments or questions. They will be deleted if I am online monitoring this thread. I don't want it to deteriorate into a hostile snark fest. Thank you for your cooperation.
To summarize, it's because he is strong enough to stand up against the woke mob destroying this country. He's not afraid to play dirty to protect the nation's soul. I think the reason many Republicans were resistant to Trump at first was because he was a former Democrat, who used Democrat style tactics Republicans were too afraid to use for the longest time. The GOP line under Bush, Romney and Ryan etc was to "stay above the fray" and Trump said no, you need to fight fire with fire. In short, he's not afraid to say what needs to be said. He's not filtering it through a bunch of focus groups. He sees the problem and he calls it out.
I'm not voting for either, but there's a reason much of big business is pro Trump. Self preservation. Stock market had a very positive reaction after the debate when it looked like Biden had no chance. Biiden wanted to raise cap gains from 20 to 40% and talked of taxing unrealized gains. That's reason enough for many to vote for the other guy even if his economic policies are questionable (I'm anti tariffs and anti deportation. I'd rather issue work visas with no criminal record).
Their primary reason is "because [screw] liberals." It's really not much deeper than that. As long as all his worst traits, his crassness, his insults, his cruelty, are directed at liberals or those championed by liberals, MAGA will love him no matter what else he does.
I liked Trump's political polices last time, and I think he can repeat what he did for our economy this next time. No one seems to care about our workers more than Trump. And I do know all about Trumps character flaws, yet I will not engage in those details because it's a moot point, IMHO. It's as simple as that.
Thank you for responding, 92. I know your Catholicism is a large part of your life. Are you not concerned with Trump's immoral and adulterous escapades? What justifies you overlooking his documented, hypocritical moral lapses?
Thanks, Rick. You were a strong supporter as far back as 2015. What was it about Trump that attracted you to him as a candidate?
An unrealized capital gains tax is insane. So is Harris’ policy on stopping fracking in the United States so we can depend on more expensive oil from the Middle East. I don’t want to high jack the thread, but the Democrats have to kill both of those terrible ideas.
Who the hell "pledges themselves" to a POTUS candy, by mere virtue of supporting their candidacy??? Insulting premise(s) aside, I'll answer for my part, in earnest, in the simplest terms possible. 1. Better of the exactly TWO (2) options, by a country mile; 2. Out of principle--whem the TDS infected chicom puppet party unleashed it's multi faceted lawfare attack on Trump, it kinda made it like only Trump can and must be crammed down the collective gullet of the douchebags who thought 3rd world banana Republic politics was a good idea; 3. We already had a Trump presidency, and it was pretty good (sans covid); 4. For these reasons, and still others, DJT = the best POTUS selection for the USA for this election cycle. No homo. No love fest. No cult bullshit. Straight up pragmatism. Caveat: that's jmho, fwiw. Rhetorical question: why do you *pledge yourself* to whatever empty suited, puppet imbecile your chicom puppeteers tap as their chosen candy for their own pruposes? Rembember-no snark allowed. Why do you use your vote to support the Chicom puppet party?
To the extent that there is truth to your suggestion, it is not for the purposes of seeing libbies cringe, any more than we go to church to piss off atheists. If libbies weren't all about controlling our lives, we'd probably be just as content to ignore them as we ignore potheads, the LBG[alphabet] crowd, Hamas cheerleaders, pro criminals, and whatever other in-your-face progressive types... It's the part where they insist on throwing their woke ass shit in our faces, that prompts us to throw our own shit back in theirs. In that sense, ain't no one better than DJT--but that's hardly the only or even most compelling basis for his broad base of support. You flatter yourself, if you think your annoyance supersedes our own self-interest (which aligns with our nation's interest as well), as the more compelling reason for supporting 1 of exactly 2 viable POTUS candy's.
He wants to stop manufacturing jobs from leaving our country... and he's fighting to get better trade deals from countries like China that simply dump their good on our shores until our companies go out of business. Then they raise their prices, and by the time we realize that we have no way to make those goods here. Trump sees this as untenable, and he has made some trade deals with countries, like China, that were a good start. Unfortunately, he never finished (ran out of time) what he started. I want to see more trade deals and more peace (in the Middle-East) deals too.
The nation desperately needs constructive dialogue between the 2 factions. Do you see a path to bringing the two party's together to establish areas of mutual agreement?
No, but that is one of the reasons I am not a Trump supporter and a “double hater” that is deeply unsatisfied with both options on the table. MAGA will never come to a common middle ground in my opinion. Donors will force the two specific issues I referenced on Democrats. Didn’t want to high jack because I will not be voting for Trump. Love the question / thread.
Good post Lacuna, I actually intended to post the same type of question as I don’t get it. I understand a conservative platform with ideas on economic, social, and international issues. And support a lot of it (which maga now calls RINO). But don’t understand the trump following.
I wish you would expound on this. Give us details about the Trump political policies you specifically do not like.
How does one handle this and the scathing criticisms from normally stoic, well respected military members. Serious question, when 90% of your employees will nor endorsed you and have such biting criticisms...how do you just dismiss this. The sources are good and on the record. Generals, admirals, etc at the tops of their professions I have most of the harder core maga types blocked so maybe someone else ask them as they will not see this..
I would not consider myself a supporter. I have never worn a MAGA hat. I have never bought anything MAGA or even put a Trump sign in my yard or a Trump bumper sticker on my car. I have opposed Trump in every primary where I have voted, but I also have cast votes for him in the 2016 and 2020 general elections. Broadly speaking there are a few lines of thinking that have shaped my motivations for voting for him in the general elections in the past: 1. The choice for POTUS is binary. It is either one candidate or the other. In my estimation he's been the better of the two candidates every election cycle in the general election. 2. It is the exercise of the office that impacts our daily lives. It is ultimately what the POTUS does with the power he is granted with that matters most. "Trump said...," "Trump tweeted...," those are headlines that grab people's attention. They rile up the masses, but I am most concerned about the use of the power of the office of POTUS. I do believe character matters, but actions from the office of the POTUS matter the most. I had some good faith reasons to believe Trump would exercise the powers of the office of POTUS in a just and right way because he made promises about how he would exercise the powers of that office. But bad character also means there is a risk the person could do something immoral (i.e. Richard Nixon). 3. We are not just electing a POTUS, but we are also electing the myriad of people the POTUS appoints to various positions across the government. So, it has never been an election of just Trump vs. Hillary or Trump vs. Biden or Trump vs. Harris. It is an election between Trump, the justices he will appoint, the cabinet he will appoint, the secretaries he will appoint, etc, and Clinton/Biden/Harris, the justices they will appoint, the cabinet they will appoint, the secretaries they will appoint, etc. We do not know exactly who those people are, but the party platform is the best indicator to predict the kinds of convictions held by those that will be appointed to those positions. The actual powers of government are more justly exercised when Republicans are in power vs. Democrats being in power. 4. I have come to the conclusion that Trump says, "Best ever" or "Worst ever" way too much. I don't believe many statements he makes like that. I think he has a bad habit of overstating his own accomplishments, but there is also the elephant in the room that the media lies too. They can't be trusted, and yet we are supposed to trust the media to tell us when Trump lied. Kamala Harris told a bold faced lie when she lied about Biden's mental health, but that was not called out as a lie because the media agreed with it and defended it at the time. Lies have become synonymous with disagreement with the ministry of truth. Because of that we really don't know what a lie is since we don't know whether the ministry of truth is telling the truth or not. 5. I was talking to a friend of mine the other day, and in his own words "If we don't win this election the country may be lost forever." A bunch of illegal aliens being granted voting rights or even being illegally signed up to vote in the 2024 election is something many people believe is a possibility. Once the composition of the electorate changes we could be a 1 party state perpetually if we lose this election. The margins for elections are thin and the open border definitely seems purposeful and planned. There are some people who believe that. We also could fall militarily to China, Russia, and Iran. Many of us really do believe that the Democrats are destroying this country. Morally, militarily, politically, socially. That does not necessarily mean that I fear the outcome of an election, but I do believe every citizen has a duty to vote for what is in the best interest of his country if he sincerely believes in his heart that a certain way of voting is in the best interest of the country.
