As part of the new revenue-sharing model — beginning in 2025-26 academic year — by-sport scholarship restrictions are eliminated, and schools are permitted to offer
scholarships to the entirety of their rosters. The new roster limit figures are not final until the approval of House settlement terms.

Basketball is set to increase from 13 to 15.

Schools will not be forced to give the full scholarship numbers. This allows each school to offer grants, leave walk-on opportunities, as well as offer partial scholarships.

The new roster figures are "expected to be included in the long-form agreement in the landmark settlement of three antitrust cases, including the House v. NCAA lawsuit.
The agreement is expected to be filed Friday with details on the distribution of the $2.77 billion in back pay to former athletes as well as particulars of the new revenue-
sharing model permitting schools to distribute upwards of $20-plus million annually
    ."

Lots to unpack there, and I'm not clear on much of it. For instance, if "by-sport scholarship restrictions are eliminated," why is there a restriction of basketball scholarships at 15?

There is a limit on roster size. It’s going to be 15 for basketball.

Yeah, I said as much. My question was about the statement, "by-sport scholarship restrictions are eliminated."

your actual question was "why is there a restriction of basketball scholarships at 15?"
the answer is, that is the roster limit.

I think it's legal lingo for "each" sport (i.e. basketball, football, baseball, etc)

Yep, great for baseball especially and about time. 105 for football seems like a crazy high amount and not necessary.

I thought they needed balance of male versus female scholarship limits due to title IV? Too many full scholarships on men’s side would be challenging for women’s sports. May need to add another women’s sport to mix. What’s left? Water polo? Beach volleyball?

Yep. Title IX is not going away. Unless the rules have changed, I believe you need matching numbers of men's and women's scholarships. Lacrosse already has a pretty big squad, but we'll probably need to up the numbers in the other sports, and yeah, maybe add a sport.

In the past, lacrosse had to carve up I believe 12 scholarships. My daughter just told me the number is now jacked up really high, mid-thirties or something.

Rowing would be a great sport to add. It's actually quite exciting to watch and a number of colleges compete in it. Heck, UF already even has a rowing club, so they could make it a scholarship program tomorrow.
Newnan's Lake, east of Gainesville, would be plenty big enough for a full-length 2,000 meter course.

The TV coverage of rowing is horrendous. I find it really difficult to tell what’s going on.

This is huge! More scholarships and flexibility for schools to attract top talent. Can't wait to see the impact on college sports!

It's really pretty easy to follow. Boats line up. Boats start racing. First boat to cross the finish line wins.

Boats line up. Yes. Boats start racing. Yes, but can’t tell who’s leading whom. But, yes, either who or whom will cross line first.

This is the age of the drone. Just have a couple of drones flying along with 'em and shooting live footage.
